Done a bit of digging into The Station Hotel where some reports say Laurel & Hardy stayed while playing Aston/Newtown. Conflicting reports as some say they actually stayed at The Bartons ? Not sure if back in the day it had lodgings above the pub ?

From the pub's website. It doesn't say in so many words that Laurel and Hardy stayed at the Barton's, though they apparently did have rooms.

Quote
The Bartons Arms is famed for its long association with the Aston Hippodrome, once the Midland’s premier variety theatre. The most famous double act in film history Arthur Stanley Jefferson and Norvell Hardy, were patrons of The Bartons Arms. Known as Laurel & Hardy they worked the variety show circuit, when not busy making films, which brought them to The Bartons Arms. Working at the now demolished Aston Hippodrome they would rest at The Bartons Arms between shows on their last tour of the UK in May 1954.

Marie Lloyd, Sid Field, Enrico Caruso and the immortal Charlie Chaplin also drank and lodged at The Bartons Arms.

Elbow room you mean?

My Dad, who is a wind up merchant, told me when I was a kid that the Elbow Room is where they hold arm wrestling competitions. Took me years to discover that this was in fact bollocks.

Have we an update then? Does Stu have cougar related tetanus or will he really make the Liverpool game?

And did Amfy get home in good order after all that cider?

I was fine. The Aspalls, the Merrydown, & the Bulmers were all good. It was the experimental cider - The Oaple at The Bartons - that simply sent me to sleep!

I need to remember to steer clear of experimental cider!
