Footballers earn insane amounts of money for playing a game, and their stupendous salaries are squeezed from supporters often drawn from the less well off. They get cheered by those same supporters, who would happily lynch a banker for screwing the poor. Logic has nothing to do with football whatsoever.

And if the same supporters jeer or boo, they are derided by club, media and other fans.
