If you're going to be sniffy about gambling sponsors, then you really need to hold a similar moral attitude to Randy's fortune.

I am and I do. Having once had the misfortune to work on a IS project with a very large Vegas-casino, I know firsthand how they intentionally wreck people's life. All for just a few dollars more.

Credit card companies are not an awful lot better with their aggressive targeting of vulnerable people.

We support a team in what might be the most commercially-orientated sports league in the world. Massive pressures are put on supporters, who are traditionally drawn from some of the poorer sections of society, to spend their last penny on their club. In fact, the most powerful ethos of the Premier League seems to be the fear that someone, somewhere, is spending money that they aren't getting. Yet we complain about the ethics of a club sponsor.

Well, the club sponsor was the topic and I don’t feel my stance is very dramatic. It won't stop me supporting Villa but I happen to detest the gambling industry and would much prefer we weren't associated with it. There's nothing more to it. This is not an exercise in moral rectitude; like most people I compromise my morals all too often so I claim no particular moral high ground.

I'm not saying it is or it isn't. I just find it strange how we're happy to support a club that signs up to such a finance-driven ethos - indeed, we encourage it - then dislike one aspect of it.

Footballers earn insane amounts of money for playing a game, and their stupendous salaries are squeezed from supporters often drawn from the less well off. They get cheered by those same supporters, who would happily lynch a banker for screwing the poor. Logic has nothing to do with football whatsoever.

Looking on the official site for some details of when the kit will be up I noticed a couple of interesting things:

Quote
Villa have once again created a special ladies kit ahead of the coming term as Joe Hunt's lionesses get set for their first season in the Women's Super League

I remember someone posting something about a member of the ladies team confirming that it was white and purple quarters - could that be a ladies only kit?

Quote
The home kit is described by merchandising chiefs as "in keeping with tradition" while the away strip is "modern and vibrant."

The black and white mock-up we've seen on here is very nice but I don't think it could ever be called 'vibrant'.

I know we;ve not got long to wait now but I found it quite interesting, I kind of wish I'd bothered to read that page sooner.

I don't like having a gambling sponsor on the front of the shirt, and nothing you say is going to make me like it,
I think it sends out the wrong message to youngsters, and we would have been better staying clear,
now that's my opinion, other people have no problem with having them as a sponsor, I have no problem with them having no problem with it either, but for me I personaly would rather something different

as others have said its no big deal, just a view on a sponsor, I have been asked if I bet, if i'm going to cheer when we score a goal, if I use credit cards, all in an attempt to try and make me feel a bit hypocritical,
well if I am fair enough, its not going to change my support for Villa, and its not going to change the fact that I would rather not have a gambling company on the front of the Villa shirt
