I can't remember the last time I bought the latest nylon fire-hazard of a rag that we call the shirt but my youngest likes to wear the full kit and he'll be gutted that he can't wear one the same a the players again next season.

Never mind though, it's all about the money afterall

I wouldn't want my kids being a walking billboard for any advertisement whatever business they're in.

So basically you wouldn't be happy regardless of who were our sponsors, and did that include Acorns?

No, supporting charities is something to be proud of, and our ongoing association with Acorns is wonderful. My own niece spent most of her childhood receiving respite care from them, so it's something close to my heart  You're right about one thing though, I much prefer the days before shirt sponsorship, but I guess that's just me being old fashioned, and shirt sponsorships are here to stay. I do find it strange that someone would prefer to see their kids walking around with advertisements on their shirts. Never understood that one.

The irony being is that our support of Acorns is probably more now that we have a short sponsor that actually gives us money

So unless it was a charity you wouldn't be happy. The days of no sponsorship were 30 years ago, times have changed, not necessarily for the better but it does seem to be complaining for the sake of it. I'm sure your kids have worn stuff with Nike on etc.

And who has said they prefer it?

You want us to sign someone like Lescott and his 90K a week wages, but then don't seem happy about us raising money.

Not at all. Shirt sponsorship is here to stay but I'd rather we steer clear of gambling companies and the like. I also think that by default all kids shirts are sold without the sponsor's name on it.
As for Lescott I'd like to think all the extra tv money we're about to receive could partly go towards his cost.

Not the greatest of sponsor but you are right pws, my main concern is what happens on the pitch and a winning team .

To kids it isn't an advert, it's part of the shirt.

True. Still doesn't make it right though.

We are a club bankrolled by a man who inherited his wealth from his father, who made his fortune in founding and running a company which makes profit by encouraging people to go into debt, and applying high interest rates.

Anyone who has had an MBNA card will tell you how aggressive they are in seeking out new business, too. I get endless (printed) junk mail from them encouraging me to borrow more.

The online gambling industry is entirely dependent on credit card companies like MBNA. No credit card payments = no online gambling industry.

If you're going to be sniffy about gambling sponsors, then you really need to hold a similar moral attitude to Randy's fortune.

I think what people really want, if we can't give it to charity, is a fancy high profile sponsor. The reason we're not sponsored by Apple or Sony or someone like that is because there's not enough in it for them. They don't need us.

I couldn't give a toss who the sponsor is. But that's only because I'm so small I can easily fit into the largest boy's size shirt.

Possibly the only advantage of being a shortarse I have discovered to date.

Nah, I don't agree with you about credit cards being as bad as betting companies
You can justify anything if you want it bad enough,

 but I wouldn't go a with a gambling company, I just don't think it's right

No, in your opinion he is right.

If people have issues with pay day loan companies and gambling companies then it is hypocritical not to be against credit cards as well.

I know more people who have ended up fucked because of credit cards than I do from gambling or pay day loans.

I am.

You just said yourself, they're "not the same" - money lenders and betting companies.
