There is a big difference to wearing a football shirt when out and being a full kit wanker.

Maybe, but it's the first step on the slippery slope.

Only if the person is a sad sack. I wore my 80/81 shirt into town the other day. I had no urge to to wear matching shorts and socks.

When me and Mr Sox were driving through Wigan to the ground we saw someone with their kid and both were wearing full Everton kits. I have to say someone as we honestly weren't sure if the adult was male or female.

World cup is in Brazil next year. That means our supermarket shopping, football fashion shirt wearing fraternity will be wearing what?

I can understand fully on the occasion getting out your 82 top to go out for a pint with the lads. If you however go the extra several steps of pulling out a full kit, socks and boots then you're a right sad bastard. And especially if you're then sporting a massive gut, and trying to act all nonchalent on a train with browsing the morning broadsheet. Like look at me, mixing it with the football's common man and the upper strata of society. It's taking trying too hard to an all new level.

Tricky one is this. Each to their own but here are mine.

Full kits <= 14 years old. No other excuse unless playing for a gane for a team.
Football Tops are ok going to, during and after game. Removing said tops for any reason other than being treated by medical personnel or being savaged by a herd of fit birds should not occur.
Football Tops are ok on holiday abroad preferably. People abroad who are wearing glory hunter tops should be either ignored or ridiculed. The former is easier, the latter more fun.
Football tops as a casual piece of attire in the off season is ok provided they fit suitably and are size S, M or L. No exceptions unless you are taller than Peter Crouch.

There is no excuse for a football shirt post-puberty.

Trying to be fair to the 'full-kit wanker' here - maybe he's on his way to or from football training? It still wouldn't be my choice of attire but makes it slightly less ridiculous.

I think that's a bit harsh, age-wise. I do think there's something wrong with slightly flabby 30 something blokes wearing them, but each to their own.

I do make an exception for retro shirts, though. They are acceptable.

I wear my old villa kits to the gym or when playing five-a-side. Lock me up.

Edit. Not full-kit obviously.

I'm feeling rather queasy. I just followed the link in that article to the 'Full-kit wankers' twitter feed and there's a disturbing picture of another bloke in full Villa kit.

You are giving him way, way too much credit. Let's look at the evidence:

He's not coming from or going to football training. He's just finished off eating a small child or several bacon and chip butty's.
He's gone to the effort of full Villa regalia. Commendable I grant you, and I am sure the Villa Merchandising Manager will want a photo of this chap up in the club shop. But it's a grown up wearing top, shorts and socks. It's ludicrous.
We've all played football at varying levels or just kicking it about with mates. It's common to wear a tracksuit, running bottoms, something...Instead he's gone to the effort with great intent of not doing any of that. My guess is his mum put his kit out for him on his bed earlier in the day, including freshly ironed shorts and socks.

I rest my case m'lord

So you decided to inflict it on everyone else.  Thanks.
