Harry Redknapp is an ungracious and crooked bastard. He can fuck off and I really hope QPR go down, they symbolise what is wrong with football.

What I liked was the complete contrast between his pre-game comments - a considered 'Villa are a big club and have a good team' line - to the complete loss of decorum in what he said afterwards.

Not that he knows the game is up or anything.

I think its harsh on Bennett to claim his misplaced pass caused the first goal. For a start it was on half way. Then Bannan or Westwood could have gone towards the ball. Bannan was closest but was too slow to react. Even then there was a lot to do for it to end up in the goal. After the shot Vlaar stopped running allowing Jenas to run past him and score. Bennett's pass shouldn't have ended up in the back of our net and the pass wasn't as bad as is being made out.

I didnt notice Bannans position at the match but on tele it showed (as Peter has said) he could have had reached the ball if his reactions had been quicker. I didnt blame Bennet at the time and I dont now. He had only just come on.

First it was a lazy/not concentrating pass, then Bannan hesitated, maybe he thought it was meant for Westwood, who also hesitated, and Jenas burst through the gap. So all are culpable but it was still Bennett's poor pass which has to take most of the blame for me.

That said it showed up the problem with having Bannan and Westwood on their own in the middle of the park (I know Sylla was on the pitch at the time).

Sorry, dont agree. It was a poor pass and the fact that Bannan and Westwood were in the middle had sod all to do with it

It was a poor pass but he ran back and got in a challenge on Jenas as he scored. It could easily have saved the goal.

If Liam Ridgewell had made that mistake in a Villa shirt he would never have managed that much.

Agreed and he actually played well after it. I think there's potentially a good player in Bennett and he is improving.

So you think if a decent defensive midfielder was in there, say Sandro, it wouldn't have made a difference? I agree it was a poor pass and it was Bennett's fault but there was no urgency to win the ball straight back (and for me Westwood should have read the danger earlier).

I agree with these sentiments to a certain extent,  but on the other hand every time he comes to VP with one of his many teams, we have a good open game with plenty of entertainment.

I actually thought first half the centre 3 were too spread apart Sean, and it contributed to the goal. Sylla and Bannan tucked in more second and allowed Bennett and Lowton to get on a bit further, and then Charlie came on and Bannan sat more.

But I agree in essence, there should have been a covering midfielder in the centre of the pitch to cut out the run of Jenas, but maybe a bit of experience in spotting that is what was missing.

Doesn't excuse the pass from Bennett though, who I still think when I see him will make a cracking footballer.

It was a poor pass and yes it was Bennetts fault, as for Westwood being a mind reader, that is surely asking a bit much. Good for Bennett that he came back from it

I thought he had a decent 2nd half as well Paul, though I do think he got caught out of position a couple of times.  Still think he may end up as a wide midfielder as opposed to a full-back.

On another note, I thought Andros Townsend looked very lively yesterday.  He looked like the kind of wide player we could do with.

I think you will find that most teams are carried by 3/4 players week in week out only Spurs are a one man team!

I have just watched the first game on MOTD for a third time ....i'm somewhat pissed as i have been since 17:55 yesterday afternoon...i am knocking on 60 now and have been going down to God's little piece of land since early 60's but yesterday gave me my belief again...i have written on here about how i walked out at half time against Newcastle utterly depressed vowing never to step inside Villa Park if we ended up in the Championship....well yesterday renewed all my faith in everything Claret & Blue. The game itself had everything...i loved Brad Guzan keeping us in the Premiership with the finest display for 20 or so minutes that i have ever witnessed for a keeper...his performance restored all my faith and although we went behind , and yes it was Bennet's fault for that first goal we never wilted and Lowton and Gabby's equaliser had me purring...nay praying for better things to come. Then that young Austrian lad had me jumping out my seat....me in the Upper Witton singing my heart out...his performance in the 2nd half was amazing...he lifted the whole ground his performance had everything....amazing, beautiful...just awe inspiring. The atmosphere in the ground was the best in what seems for ever....i have my faith back....i love you all and well what else can i say....i was gonna redecorate the living room of my house...light blue walls and claret carpet was going i was so disallusioned...but fuck it ...it's staying as it is.....
