No i will not be renewing - if relegation is confirmed. Come next August i will be knocking on the door of my 60th birthday and i will have been going down the Villa since 1961 call it 52/3 years and for 50 of them i have lapped up every minute of it. There are posts on here in regard to 'if it happens,i can see some different grounds'....Great for you youngsters i've done all that, there are a few i probably havent been to and that will remain. Some of the seasons late 60's and early 70's were absolutely fantastic, like many on here the third division days were possibly my favourite. I just do not enjoy it any more...on Tuesday night i shed tears, truthfully, because i left at half time - i have never been even close to doing that. I even had a row in the Upper Witton by the stair way to the exit with a lad in his late 20's early 30's who pleaded with me not to leave saying the club require our support, they do, but i just could not stay and watch any more. RL and to a lesser degree PL have ripped the heart out of me. I got through the exit turnstile and tears flowed....i'm a grown man who is basically falling out of love with the 'absolute' love of my life.....my house is a shrine to AVFC but currently i feel like ripping everything down and hiding it away in the garage.  I am distraught that i feel this way, cost has never been a factor in the past but it is now - i certainly think that the cost of a season ticket will not go down - and that isnt the deciding factor - i rely on a pension now but i know that i would go without a holiday or whatever to find the money for my season ticket....but i just feel that i just DON'T WANT to......that is what upsets me so much. When i left on Tuesday my heart wouldnt let me just go home i went to Swan & Mitre sat in my usual seat and waited for the end of the game and the return of the fans. There werent many 'Smiley happy people' among them. i sat there listening to their comments in virtual silence supping my Cider and caught the last train home to Selly Oak still in virtual silence. I just feel there is NO HOPE!!!!

I feel for you mate, very sad indeed. What would it take to feel the love again or is that it?

Very sad post, PGW. I hope something happens to make you reconsider. Tearing yourself away from the club is a tough thing to do after all these years. They are your club, not Lerner's, even though he has a piece of paper saying he owns it.

My dear wife would tell you.... It's only a game. To be honest even she daren't say that at the moment. We are all suffering.
I just hope things will change and you will be part of it all again.

My dear wife buggered off in 2000 realising that she couldn't compete!!!!!

Might be a bit late to try and get her back!!!

I had decided at the start of the season that I wouldn't renew again and said so at the time.  It's not due to the whole Lambert/Randy thing, just other commitments.

Not that that helps this debate at all, but there you go!

Same reason as last that I won't be renewing. The arrival of junior glasses has meant that I go to the odd game when I can afford it. I'll return, hopefully with my boy in a few years time, genuinely in whatever state the club are in.

If I could have afforded it this year i'd be there, and whatever the outcome of this season, I'd be there next year.

You do know that the failure of our club and the fortunes of the Swan and Mitre go hand in hand.  I even said the same to the Landlady (Ann) on the Tuesday night.

The division we're in will affect attendances will affect number of customers going to the pub will affect their survival.  Ann had a concerned look on her face.  The pub only exists because of match day and your taste for cider, mine for the very good Guinness they serve.  You might well fall back in love with your club in time but your match day pub could well be gone by then.

Having a season ticket gives you the advantage of being in the away scheme, thereby guaranteeing tickets to all away league games.

Fair comment but haven't most away games gone past just ST holders this season and become generally available to anybody with a booking history.  On top of this I would have thought that at a lot of Championship grounds there would be more away availability than at most Prem grounds looking at attendances so ST won't probably be as vital next year to securing an away ticket.  Final thought even if away tickets are in short supply you would certainly be able to travel to most of the matches on the day and just walk in to the home section to watch the match.

The other thing about relegation is that staff numbers at VP will no doubt be cut meaning that a number of people will lose their jobs.

Brilliant post PGW. Of all the posts I have read on here recently, alongside Brian Greens on Saturday morning after Millwall , yours is the one that has most struck home to me.

When the core support such as you feel the situation is hope less - as I do - then the club is bang in trouble.

The last thing my lad , who is 9, said on Tuesday night after getting home from the game was '' When we go down, I don't think I will want a season ticket Dad'' .

Broke my heart - and I couldn't argue with him.

They have ripped the life and soul out of B6.

I will do yes, at least there'll be some new teams to face and teams to no doubt develop a hatred of. Loads of away grounds that I haven't been to either, only 3 in the Premier League.

Also we might win as many games as we lose, which would make a nice change.
