He said: "That's the decision I've made. The football club has been in relegation battles for the last few years. This isn't just new on them because they've been in it for a few years.

He's started getting this one in of late, I've noticed. A bit of back covering while things are crashing down around his ears.

Seems that way , getting in the excuses in preparation , when he says weve been in relegation battles the last few years , we have only actually finished bottom half once in 5 years .

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

We spent most of Houllier's season in the bottom half it was only in the last couple of games that we made it safe. So we've been relegation contenders for 3 seasons now. In our efforts to trim the wage bill we got rid of too many players too quickly.

It seems obvious to me that what we need is a period of stability, not another change of manager.

He's believed 'from Day One' that we won't get relegated. How many other managers would even contemplate that at the start of the season?

In fairness to eastie, he's heard the same thing I have by the sounds of it. We'll see how things pan out.

Most would, when taking over a side who spent the previous season in a relegation battle.

For all RLs faults, its fair to say he has put his hand in his pocket.  But just when we need it the most be seems to have pulled the rug.  It makes no sense.  Or is it the case that PL just hasn't been able to find the players he wants.

It would be good if the club let us know after the window closes.

We know that. He quoted you in a list of three people who knew it so it has probably come from the same source. There are only so many variations:
1 - Lerner won't spend.
2 - Lerner will spend but Lambert won't let him.
3 - Lerner wants to spend and Lambert is trying to find someone to buy.

Chris  correct. if you are taking over a team that has been into two relegation fights you would consider relegation. People should stop chewing the fat on Lamberts words in such minutiae to look for what they term as excuses!

Just a pity that he isn't being very convincing in his beliefs. What an inspiration of a Manager!

Ignoring the words, I can't really see any defence for our recent performances. I think that's the biggest concern, our constant repetition of the same mistakes.

I think No3 is the most likely scenario.

Oh, I didn't see that "list" so awfully sorry.
I think #3 seems to be the most accurate as far as I know, which isn't much.

If Lambert does have money, and there is so much smoke and mirrors I haven't got a clue any more, and he has chosen not to spend it, then I think that is a gross dereliction of his responsibility as Aston Villa manager.

Christmas told him everything about what that squad needed to steady us and give fresh impetus. January has been the most desperate time since I started supporting the club in the 70s. We had a fantastic opportunity to get points on the board against our rivals and get to Wembley and his stubborness may have thrown it all away.

It makes me want to weep with frustration to be honest.

Got to get rid of the wasters first, and no I didn't hear that in the last hour.Shift a couple out, bring a couple in.Still a paper thin squad(apart from Dunne of course).

Agree, with the rider that the budget is small and he doesn't fancy what's on offer (at the moment) at the going price. If that's the case I don't blame Lambert.

He never mentioned before now though has he? He's getting desperate now everyone's realised just how awful a job he's doing.
