FFS why do I care so much when to all extent and purposes the players and the manager don't appear to?

The chairman certainly doesn't. He's the cause of all the problems at Villa, and has got away with murder over the last 3 years while the managers take all the stick.

Who says that the players and manager don't care?

The players are poor, no doubt, but they don't appear even remotely organised, either. They're all over the place, all over the pitch. That's a coaching issue, and that's Lambert's responsibility. They're not improving in any way I can see, and in fact are getting markedly worse. That's Lambert's responsibility, too.

I don't think he's a very good manager.

Sadly, the comparisons with Pubehead are close to the truth, he only has Plan A - Gung-ho!

I'd say you couldn't be more wrong.

How many different formations has PL tried out? He's tried different things throughout his time here so far and the only one that worked carried us through our only good spell, put to an end by Chelsea, then he totally changed it tonight.

4-4-2 tonight would've seen us through, but he played some bizarre formation for the first time and players looked confused (almost as much as PL).

CNZ - absolute wanker.  Thinks he's Messi when I reckon I've played against better players on a Sunday morning.  PASS THE FUCKING BALL YOU GREEDY TWAT!  The quicker he's got rid of the better.

I hope I never see him in a Villa shirt again. A complete and utter twat!

He was behind pretty much all our best moments and was the only player to look Premier League standard in my opinion.

I agree, I found those comments very odd. He was our standout player by an absolutely mile

Again I cant understand the comments about Nzogbia? I thought he was one of our best players tonight

CNZ is the most pointless player in the world in my opinion. Doesn't pass and doesn't shoot. Just simply dribbles with the ball until he gets tackled. Yes he may beat one or two players but he eventually gives the ball away every time.

What happened tonight is that everything that went wrong for us did, everything that went right for them did... along with horrendous defending from set pieces. Not that I'll kneejerk like the usual people, we actually were the better team. We were on top for most of the game and I have no idea how they kept making save after save not letting us score. They did not look threatening really, apart from the goals they hit the bar that's it. We did not play badly, just poor defending yet again cost us.

I still think we can overturn a 2 goal deficit, however the pressure will be on which might  make it tougher... what I'm even more worried about now is the game on Saturday - what will a defeat tonight do to our confidence? It's a massive game.
This was against an average league 2 side. We looked wide open everytime they came forward and at set pieces you can put money on us conceding. There is a trend emerging here we can't keep a clean sheet against anyone that makes it so much easier for the opposition. Soton will know before they walk out at VP on Saturday that they will score. Unless there are serious personnel changes this month watch us fall into the bottom 3 very quickly and stay there.

Is it just me or is there a lot of overreaction. Bradford must be doing well to get this far and they have have just knocked Arsenal out. Bradford's keeper wins man of the match and the majority are saying how crap we were.

True, but if you can't match any team, at what ever level you or they play, in the desire to win the ball when it's crossed into the box then you are going to struggle. Clark moves like he has lead in his boots, when you think that he should be the one giving the leadership in that defence, it's frightening.

The blame lays with Lambert / Lerner for putting us it the position where we are reliant on these young players.

This team doesn't come anywhere close to the team in 94..

We desperately need some leadership, but I can't see any sign that it will be coming.

Oh, actually on reflection, I think you're right. Let's crack another bottle of champagne

Just how bad does it have to get for us to be justified in 'over-reacting' on here?????

You watch. We'll win the second leg 4-2 where they'll score in the 90th minute and take the game into ET. Neither team will score and we'll go out on away goals.

I would say the defence wouldn't be too bad if they had some protection from midfield... they had precisely none. Most of the balls failed to find their target - with just routine passes. Bennett not good. Bannan not good.

He was. They should've given him the ball more than what they did. They only player Bradford were in panic about when he got the ball.

Normally I'd agree, but he had his moments tonight, and was the only player trying to move the ball forward with purpose instead of twatting it up the pitch and crossing his fingers.

It's hard to say anyone really did well tonight, but he was the best of a bad bunch.
