A steady start this morning with a bit of luck to go with it when Ateeq Javid was dropped on his overnight score by Samit Patel at 3rd slip.
They are now still 15 behind:
46-2
Evans 19
Javid 11

Bears injury jinx has struck again. Darren Maddy has suffered a bad calf strain and will have to bat with a runner. Will be interesting if Maddy & McKay at the wkt together. I've never seen 2 runners at one time.

Evans has his 50. Notts certainly don't like him after his 178 no at Edgbaston
109-3
Evans 52
Woakes 13
Lead 48

The time I saw Evans play on TV this year he had an injury and couldn't put proper force into his shots, still made a 50 mind you.

Shite - Last ball before lunch Samit Patel with last ball of his first over has Woakes bowled.
126-4 Lead of 65
Evans 59 no
I hope that this isn't some sort of omen - spin gets a wkt in its first over of the day.

No i'm not at the game, listening, in my opinion if we managed to bat the day out which is another 64 overs then game should be safe as there is heavy rain forecast tonight and tomorrow morning. To bat another 64 overs will be very difficult though but we MUST set a minimum lead of 200 (65 currently) hopefully 250. If we are all out before Tea then we have problems if we set say 175-180 with 35 overs left today Notts will have a real go to get as many of them today as they can in the hope of getting on the field some time tomorrow. Samit Patel could be the key this afternoon.
Stef Piolet has come out now with Evans so lets keep everything crossed. Four to Evans off first ball after lunch.

135-5
Evans Ct Taylor b Gurney 63
Piolet 4
Maddy in with a runner..
Lead of 74
Crucial wkt that.
Evans 898 Championship runs so far this season would have been nice to get to 900.
Maddy edges first ball to slip just falling short.

Essex req 51 with 10 wkts v Worc

I think I'm right in saying that Essex have been out for less than 51 this season.

Bears slowly recovering now:
169-5
Piolet 24
Maddy 12
Partnership of 34
Lead 108 43 overs left today.
At Taunton Somerset all out leaving Derby 244 to win. Tight finish there where i suppose Somerset now favourites????

177-6
Piolet Ct Hussey b Fletcher 30 - Highest championship score.
Maddy 14
Barker in
Lead 116
Piolet didn't need to play that short ball and was caught on the boundary.
