Must have been relatively close then. Which means the umpire was guessing. gets my goat as much as lineman sticking their flag up for  close decisions (offside) and are clearly guessing. If in doubt don't give it out/offside. If the umpire/linesman think they are right then they are guilty of serious misjudgment. Not because the decision was wrong but because they believe they are right.
