Close of Play
359 - 3   96 overs
Chopra 187 (282)
Ambrose 64 (95)
151 partnership

So 41 req'd off 14 overs tomorrow to get max batting points. Dernbach did carry on

Is Rankin available as he was only cover for England?

Too be honest i'm not sure - during the commentary they said that Rankin was on his way to Guildford but then well into the afternoon session someone commented that Rankin had been held back at Trent Bridge as there were still doubts about Finn's fitness....although he is playing in today's game.....so in essence i havent a clue.

Rankin isn't mentioned in those 'to bat' on Cricinfo.

I don't think you are allowed to change your team once you start to bat because otherwise what would stop a team struggling for runs sticking another batsman (or even better, an all-rounder) in at the end?

Makes sense, although it still seems unfair that one side is allowed to sub in a ringer and the other isn't. It's not as if Rankin's stand-in has played any part in the game so far, whereas Surrey have been able to use 6 front line bowlers.

According to Cricinfo Surrey are playing 11 from 12, the Bears 11 from 11, so it looks like Rankin will be sitting the game out.

Woakes is shown as part of England's Champions Trophy squad of 15 so I guess he is out for a few weeks.

Rankin would have been eligible to play if England had released him - even though Bears batting. He would have replaced Tom Milnes - Milnes far and away the better batsmen of the two but Rankin the finer bowler.

Early breakthrough.
Chopra Ct  De Brutn b Derbach 192 (291)
Ambrose 69
369 - 4
Another 8 runs would have given Chopra his 7th first class double century - phenomenal record.

Right on cue Dernbach knocks over our two overnight batsmen.

Surprised that Rankin wasn't released. Thanks Ashley.
