The thing about this fixture is that it attracts supporters to the game for the first time. We all know that wearing a Salford shirt in the Holte won't end well because we've been to matches before and have seen it happen. This bloke and his daughter could well have been at their first (and presumably last) live match.

This is my take on events.

I think you're on the money.

I doubt its arrogance more the idiocy of Sky fan not having the first clue.

I heard about some trouble in the upper Holte. Apparently some bloke with his daughter who removed her coat to reaveal a Man U top.  Fans around them had words and it ended with the bloke calling Villa fans around him scum and such like. He got a few digs before they were both taken out by stewards

That hardly reflects well on our supporters.

No it doesn't.

It doesn't reflect well on the bloke's common sense or parenting skills either.

It doesn't but anyone who gets upset by the sight of a young girl wearing a football shirt and wants to attack her father isn't someone I'd particularly want supporting my club.

Nothing should have happened but doing it there was more of a risk than anywhere else in the ground.  It was a very stupid thing to do baring in mind that the chap would have been well aware that the Holte is for home supporters only.  To compound the situation with verbals to those around him was even more stupid...taking the "we'll do what we want" a bit far don't you think?

As has been said above, it was very likely ignorance and naivety rather than arrogance, and it appeared that he only said anything when someone started on his daughter. As ever with this match, the amount of people who were at either their first game of the season or more likely their first ever has to be seen to be believed. I had one bloke marching a party of kids past me saying "Holte End this way is it?" and someone else with his family asking where the North Stand was. My cheery "Same place it's always been" got the response of "I've never sat in that one before." Work that out.

If I'm asked for directions during this game I always tell them that the X stand they are looking for is in the same place it is against Wigan. They look really confused!

There are 2 types of opposing fans who do this, the "Daddy n his kids having a family treat" types who should just be ignored, as fairly harmless, if a little naive, and the in your face Gobshite types, these 2 social groups should meet entirely different fates, the latter getting what they deserve.

The fella with his daughter in a Man U top was more than just naive - there are notices all over the tickets which would've said that area was for home supporters only, there are signs again over every turnstyle, and anyone over the age of 30 (as it sounds like this bloke was) who hasn't lived in a cave since birth would no about football's past and the reason for segregation.

As for being deliberately obtuse when people ask directions, we moan when the ground isn't full then treat potential new fans with contempt when they come to the ground.  Whilst those fans might have been coming to watch Man U, I'd like to think the way we played last night might encourage them to come back when Man U aren't in town.  Making them feel completely unwelcome probably won't encourage them to come back.

When they scored their winner some arse in L8 ran down the stairs and pretty close to the stewards and started jumping around. He knew he was going to be saved by the stewards before he got clobbered, one guy really went for him as he was being dragged away. Part of me hoped the stewards left him to his fate, should'nt take the piss.

Oh, the fans actually in the away end didn't cover themselves in glory. Making childest noises during the minutes silence and doing their level best to antagonise us during the Petrov minute of applause.
