From what the people who went to Swindon and have been good enough to provide us with their comments had said it looks as if we just about deserved to win..just..  Dave has mentioned that Lambert more or less played Benteke out wide in the second half which doesnt make any sense at all. Those there differ on Irelands performance. Lambert appears to be taking the Brian Clough line in critisising players publicly and that is wrong.

Benteke often plays out wide for Belgium, too.  I think it's in his locker to drift out wide and interchange with wingers throughout the ninety minutes.

Don't really understand why lambert had to make the critical comments about benteke- he's a young lad who had just scored 2 very good goals , if lambert feels the need to criticise in public he may wish to take a look at himself and the mistakes he's made so far , there are many players who deserve to be criticised ahead of benteke- seems a poor bit of man management there.

Man-management is all about understanding how the individual player responds to various motivational forms.  It's very possible those that deserve the criticism more would not respond well to it, but he thinks Benteke would.

don't get me wrong, good to be in the hat for the next round, but fuck me, how the mighty have fallen. tripoding around about an away win at Swindon!

Yes because we've never once struggled to beat a lower league team in a Cup competition before, nor has any other Premier League club.

Fair enough but does he need to do it publicly?

Maybe that's the way he and the player want it. As I said earlier, Saunders would have been on at Morley after every match.

Billy, I responded earlier by agreeing that I'm not arguing about Benteke's statistics, rather I was referring to him answering the critics who accuse him of being a striker who misses sitters.

I must admit the quotes about Bentek did concern me slightly.  Managers like Saunders and Ferguson can get away with it when their own performance is untouchable, but Lambert has hardly pulled up any trees himself since he's been here.  If Faulkner gave an interview saying he was concerned about how Lambert was doing, I bet the LMA would be called almost immediately, yet managers think it's OK to criticise players in public.

Happy with the win ,all that matters in a cup is the score. Wish i knew why Villa seem unable to play 90 minutes instead of 45 . You just knew at 2-0 up it would not be straight forward and that we would let Swindon back into it

Never mind his comments on Benteke, i'm more concerned about his increasingly bizarre substitutions. Not too sure what he playing at taking off Ireland and Bannan when it went to 2-2 and Weimann playing out wide was a bit odd. Holman to help out in midfield whilst it was 2-0 would have been the simple move.

We have all noticed that when Ireland , particularly, and Bannan are not on the pitch we intend to play crap  and either lose or lose winning positions. As was the case yesterday until the third gaol went in.

I was there and the decision was questioned by us all!! Still not sure what difference Delph was going to make. Holman was the obvious choice to cahnge things in mid but i thunk he was entitled to have a rest last night after all the running he has done so far this season!!
All that matters really is the result and the fact that we are in the hat for the 1/4 finals should be enough but quite clearly for some it isnt!! UTV!!

Well as predicted a nerve shredding affair but we pulled through, good news that Benteke got a brace and lets hope he can do the same at Sunderland on Saturday, listening to various radio stations this morning and some of them didnt even mention our win yet before the match we were featured heavilly with lots of talk about us going out, they dont like us do they?

I'm glad we're through, don't get me wrong but Lambert seemed to make it harder than it should have been.

Are we contractually obliged to have one comment like this on every post match thread where we didn't lose and the opposition wasn't one of the Sky clubs?
