Concrete John- at final whistle Di Canio was using Vision On type sign language which sort of indicated that he thought the home supporters were better than the away fans or that his players had performed better that Villa- difficult to really understand and he should be careful waving his arms about as it could be misinterpreted. Think he was upset with ' F**k off Di Canio, Madonna said No' chant which I thought was v good.

Thanks!

Just checked it out on Youtube and can only concur with the 'twat' conclusion.

From what the people who went to Swindon and have been good enough to provide us with their comments had said it looks as if we just about deserved to win..just..  Dave has mentioned that Lambert more or less played Benteke out wide in the second half which doesnt make any sense at all. Those there differ on Irelands performance. Lambert appears to be taking the Brian Clough line in critisising players publicly and that is wrong.

Ive just seen the goals on Sky and Benteke's winner was very good in my opinion.

Agbonlahor's goal was good but I havent changed my opinion about him in any way and I dont think he has the ability to provide a consistent level of performance in the league .Sure hes fast but so was Tony Daley. Sure he can hold the ball up so could Heskey .

And whats more  Lambert is starting to come over as quite nasty with the players. If it works all well and good. If it doesnt provide the results we all want well I dont know where we are going.

Watched the goals again, I think you're being a bit unfair on the gabby saying the defender would have got in the prem, I think he'd have been under more pressure but I don't think there was a particularly poor touch in there, the last one had to be quite heavy to open up the angle for the shot.

Both of Benteke's are great finishes, he seems to like aiming for the corners.

Their 2nd is quality, for a young kid from the 3rd tier to come on and do that against a premier league team is pretty impressive.

The first however I thin k Given could've done better, he seemed to dive but not actually move, if that makes sense.  I think Guzan would've saved it.

Not for Clough it wasn't. Maybe Lambert know how to get the best out of Benteke - I don't like to see it but what Ron Saunders would have said about Tony Morley if he'd had to do as many interviews as managers now, I shudder to think.

Don't really understand why lambert had to make the critical comments about benteke- he's a young lad who had just scored 2 very good goals , if lambert feels the need to criticise in public he may wish to take a look at himself and the mistakes he's made so far , there are many players who deserve to be criticised ahead of benteke- seems a poor bit of man management there.

Ron might have been a bit more diplomatic..or then again he might not.

Didnt Clough once refuse to let Peter Withe have the match ball "until you learn how to play football."  Sir Peter had just scored a hat trick!!

Nobody's getting over-excited and the "woe is us, how low have we fallen" response to just about everything is getting a bit cliched, to put it mildly.

Positively, Benteke's renaissance is extremely pleasing. He has a taste for scoring all of a sudden and basically, if you have a player that's scoring and has confidence it makes it so much harder to lose games. A player in form lifts the whole team and he could swing it in our favour on Saturday. And if Bent wants a bit of the action, he needs to learn to play with Benteke and be as prolific.

Benteke's renaissance?  Blimey, he's only been with the club five minutes.  He scored on his Villa debut and has scored nine goals in sixteen appearances in all competitions.  He's made four full league appearances for Villa and scored two goals.

Does anyone know what formation Villa played yesterday? The Telegraph report suggests a 4-2-3-1 which sounds a lot more dynamic that the weekend's 4-0-2, sorry, 4-4-2.

Lined up across the centre circle for a goal kick after it went 2-2 were Wiemann, Gabby, Bent and Benteke... looked for all the world like 4-2-4 at that point....
