Class finishing earnt the win tonight. Lambert nearly cost us by refusing to bring on fresh legs. Another limp, spineless display by Ireland, don't want to see the overpaid, burnt out player in a villa shirt again. The last minute winner was even sweeter seeing that prick Di Canio acting up on the pitch after the whistle. God I was glad it didn't go into extra time, it was fukin freezing.

Ireland set-up the first and was lively throughout according to 5Live.

He was fukin terrible. He also shirked countless tackles.

He passed to Gabby for the second as well.

Gabby scored and made his goal with a typical surging run inside. Ireland was useless, thing is most of our midfield were only slightly better.

Ireland still gets the assist for Gabby's goal. I think he can be an important players for us, especially the situation we are in, so 2 assists can only help his confidence. And it may a coincidence but 3 of our 4 wins so far have come when he's started.

Totally disagree. He got completely over run and was only slightly bettered by Bannan who at least showed for the ball. Before you start questioning me I agree he did assist as you call it for the goal.

What gets me is you see Gabby score like he did tonight and I think, how the hell has he gone 30 league games without a goal?

And in fairness, most of the goals were tidy, including Swindon's.

their second goal was lovely, but Benteke was so calm with his control and placement for the winner. He really does get himself into excellent positions.

He really is a potential star, I don't get why he's getting so much stick from some folks.

Also nice to Ireland get 2 assists as well. If we could just get some confidence intol key players we aren't a half bad side potentially.

some of our own lot really don't have a clue. I know that things haven't exactly been peachy in the last couple of years but not everything is shit. This lad is showing massive potential at a young age and he should be forgiven for his errors. He's not even close to the finished article. It makes me laugh also at some members of the media who scoffed at us signing him. Fuck them too. It's enough that we get ridiculed out there. We need to stick together and especially when there's something good to talk about like this kid.

Just got home, oop north.  Really pleased with the win and some good performances from the team.  Di Canio is talking out of his arse if he thinks they played all the football but I suppose he's just playing up for the media now he's had his 15 minutes of fame for the season.  As for his behaviour on the pitch afterwards, what a self absorbed prick and a massive lack of respect shown to our club.  Hopefully our new found sarcastic PR guy can come up with some suitable post match put downs in any press releases tomorrow.  Then again, ignore the facist little bastard and let him play to the crowd in the 3rd tier, the small time tosser.

Given - Fine

Lowton - Fine (dodgy ten minutes when they scored)
Vlaar - Ok (appaling ten minutes when they scored)
Lichaj - Fine
Herd - Ok until he had to go off
Stephens - looked a bit ropey to me

KEA - Really good tonight, looked more comfortable with Ireland/Bannan around him
Bannan - Excellent 1st half, faded badly in the 2nd

Weimann - not sure if he's suited to this role but didn't stop working
Ireland - lovely stuff at times, and some good hard work but like Bannan faded in the 2nd half but still 2 assists
Gabby - much much better and played in what I think is his best position, wide attacker in a 4/3/3 or 4/2/3/1.

Benteke - Woah Christian Benteke, woah Christian Benteke, woah Christian Benteke, 2 goals and after drifting out of the game in the 2nd half a strong last few minutes won us the game

Lambert - tactics spot on 1st half, maybe needed to use subs a bit earlier in the second but no major objections to what was done.

Us lot - a bit subdued at times but watching from the side stand our lot going batshit mental when Benteke got the winner was an awesome sight!  Its the kind of thing you usually see other fans getting to do.

Knackered, time for bed.....

You're a lot more positive than I am. I thought we did what we had to in the first half, containing and hitting on the break well, but the first 40 minutes of the second half were as bad as anything I've ever witnessed, and what Benteke was doing being stuck on the wing God knows. The substitutions were bizarre but worked in that we went shit or bust for five minutes and got the initiative back. Most important thing was the4 winb.

We left right on the whistle - what did Di Canio do?

Came out to thank the Swindon fans for their support (fair enough) but then proceeded to point at us lot, make a gesture that our club is in the lower reaches of the Premier League and is going to go down, then points at all the Swindon fans makes gesture to suggest high in their league and going up.  When he then gets the reaction he wants, he proceeds to repeat it several times.  Each to their own I suppose.

Quote
Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio has defended his actions at the end his side's 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa when he appeared to gesture to the visiting fans that their side would be relegated from the Barclays Premier League.
The Italian watched his side storm back from 2-0 down at the County Ground before Christian Benteke scored his second of the game to send Villa in to the last eight.
And Di Canio insisted he was merely praising the Robins' fans for their support.

He said: 'No, that was not the case. I was saying to my fans that they had been brilliant and their support was so good that they were up there and Villa were below them.
'To see the County ground full of emotion when we scored the second goal was amazing. I was saying it was my fans are the top and they are underneath you.'
Di Canio was proud of the performance of his players despite Benteke breaking their hearts with his fourth goal for Villa.
He said: 'I thought the first half was 50-50. I was more than proud of my players at the end because it was not a typical comeback, one that is just for consolation or from adrenalin.
'It was one with quality and because of change in a tactical way. We came very close to something special.'

Villa manager Paul Lambert hailed the 'world-class' finishing of two goal hero Benteke but felt his overall game was not up to standard.
Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor had given Villa a 2-0 lead before Robins substitute Miles Storey's brace looked to have forced the game into extra-time before Benteke struck for the second time.
Lambert said: 'Benteke has had a quality start (at Villa) but his game wasn't up to my standards.
'His two goals were world-class finishes but you set yourself a standard and we've got to keep him up to that standard.
'Why did he fell short? I don't know.

'But he has been brilliant since he came here and I think he will get better. He is only 21 and has been a pleasure to work with.
'He is going to be a big player and plays in a brilliant Belgium team.'
Lambert felt his side were guilty of complacency after opening a two goal lead.
He said: 'At 2-0 we were really comfortable and doing well and could have got another goal just before half-time.
'You become complacent and credit to Swindon for trying to play the right way but we deserved to win this game.

'I know how hard it is coming here and you've got to earn the right to win. It is not all glamour. It is a big win for us.'
Lambert again left out record signing Darren Bent but his line-up indicated how seriously he is taking the competition.
He said: 'You've got to take the competition seriously. There were 3,500 Villa fans here and they pay a lot of money to come and watch us.
'It is important we try and progress and see how far we can go.'
