Took forever to get back due to road works, and subsequent diversion, on the M5.

I do wish Villa wouldn't do this to us, although getting a late winner was brilliant.

I have to be honest, as sick as I felt when it went to 2-2, i'm glad in a lot of ways it did. There's no better feeling than a last gasp winner, especially in a cup match.

Must have been even more of a range of emotions being there. It was bad enough listening on the radio!

i wish people would stop posting shit like so and so is rubbish and wont make the grade. These players are learning and need support. Young players make mistakes, sometimes costly ones but they learn from them and become better players for it. If you support them instead of slating them they learn much quicker. Supporters should support all our players because these are the only ones we will have. There will be no big spending in January it is no longer club policy to splash the cash. What we have is what we go with from now on.

Second half they got the better of us and you just knew they were going to score. And when they did you just knew they were going to equalise.

What we also thought was that they were going to score a winner or that we'd have to sit through extra time and possibly penalties (and it was far too cold for that).

Then up steps Christian Benteke..................he scores when he wants.

What gets me is you see Gabby score like he did tonight and I think, how the hell has he gone 30 league games without a goal?

And in fairness, most of the goals were tidy, including Swindon's.

their second goal was lovely, but Benteke was so calm with his control and placement for the winner. He really does get himself into excellent positions.

He really is a potential star, I don't get why he's getting so much stick from some folks.

Also nice to Ireland get 2 assists as well. If we could just get some confidence intol key players we aren't a half bad side potentially.

Was hunting for living accomodation in London this evening, couldn't get any signal on my phone to see how the match was going. Managed to tune in to 5Live for some of the second half in Pizza Hut off Picadilly. Had just finished off my Italian thin and crispy when the equaliser went in. Didn't want to listen to the rest as I knew we were going to throw it all away. Finally got in an hour ago amazed to see it was us who got the last-gasp winner. Great stuff.
Bentekkers will do a Savo at Wembley next Spring. Can't wait for it.

Oh and page 32 of the match thread is an expletive-laden delight that Malcolm Tucker would be proud of.

Class finishing earnt the win tonight. Lambert nearly cost us by refusing to bring on fresh legs. Another limp, spineless display by Ireland, don't want to see the overpaid, burnt out player in a villa shirt again. The last minute winner was even sweeter seeing that prick Di Canio acting up on the pitch after the whistle. God I was glad it didn't go into extra time, it was fukin freezing.

Very interesting post-match comments from both managers:

Quote
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert praised Christian Benteke after his winner against Swindon, but was unhappy with the striker's overall performance.
Benteke struck late to secure a 3-2 Capital One Cup win against the Robins.
"Benteke has had a quality start [at Villa] but his game wasn't up to my standards," said Lambert.
"His two goals were world-class finishes but you set yourself a standard and we've got to keep him up to that standard."

Belgium forward Benteke, who was signed from Genk in August for a fee of around £7m, opened the scoring at the County Ground and a Gabriel Agbonlahor strike put Premier League side Villa 2-0 up against their League One hosts.

But two goals from Miles Storey levelled the match before Benteke struck the decisive goal after 90 minutes.
"Why did he fall short? I don't know," added Lambert.
"But he has been brilliant since he came here and I think he will get better. He is only 21 and has been a pleasure to work with.
"He is going to be a big player and plays in a brilliant Belgium team."

Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio believes his side were the better team but paid the price for the quality of their finishing not being as good as their Premier League opponents.
"We did our best and I am very proud because we dominated the game," said the Italian.
"In the first half possession was 60-40 in our advantage, in my opinion, because we played football and they countered only.
"The way we played, I'm more than proud because we dominated not like a typical cup game between a League One side against a Premier League side where the emphasis is on energy and physical presence.
"We dominated by playing football. That makes me very happy as a manager. It was a fantastic achievement from my players.
"Talking about the game we looked like the Premier League side and they looked like, with all respect to Aston Villa, the League One side.
"Benteke had two clear chances and scored two goals. We had 10-12 and only scored twice. Anyway, we have to accept this result."

Ireland set-up the first and was lively throughout according to 5Live.
