No we should have bent in gabbys place!

Bent isn't the right sort of player to play off Benteke, imo, he like to play off the last defenders shoulder which is where we want Benteke.  Personally I think it's Bent or Benteke and currently Lambert is favouring the big man.

From the youtube clips of Benteke in Belguim he appeared to play on the left of an attacking three. Lambert seems to prefer him in the centre. There is the option of playing Benteke on the left, Bent in the centre and Gabby on the right.

Mods, am I allowed to call the Bent lovers 'Benders'?

Its would be heart breaking to see Bent scoring his normal 20ish goals next season for someone else.

You just know that's what will happen too.
He knows he will be playing premier league football again. As for us...

So we should drop Benteke?
No, Agbonlahor.

I think Lambert is trying to give Benteke maximum amount of time to gain some decent form.  Another goal tonight and his scoring record for the season will be very impressive (but sadly not all of them were for us).

Benteke has cost us a few times this season already, he is nowhere near Prem class imo.

I disagree with that most strongly.

Yes that's nonsense, however I'm seriously concerned with Lambert's treatment of Bent it is ridiculous. We are not winning games and he gets goals, he's barely played and he's our top goalscorer. He should be playing and if Lambert wants to play a two then it should be Bent with Benteke.

See I disagree, I think for our club to move forward we need to get rid of Bent as soon as possible, his ego (warrented with his record) can't be doing any good for dressing room harmony.

I don't rate Bent's work rate or footballing ability at all, yes he is a goal scorer, but with our team not set up for a striker of his style, he is a luxury we cannot afford.

So I commend Lambert for being brave enough to see past the reputation and try and do what's best for the team, figures crossed it doesn't back fire.

It's Gabby that needs to be dropped, not Bent or Benteke.

Have you all clocked that we are the commentary game on BBC Radio 5live? The Beeb are obviously hoping to give air time to that cock Di Canio after a giantkilling.

Thanks for that. I was just about to head to WM who've also got live commentary

I've opted for 5 live ahead of wm - long time since I listened to a game on the radio- just like the old days.

Which bit?  The bit about him costing us?  Sitters missed against Spurs at 0-0 and Fulham when we were a goal down could have made a big difference. I don't think he is the answer.  I will say though that he does link the play better than Bent, but a top finisher he aint.  Thats just my opinion.

He's 21.

But we need Prem quality NOW, not in the future.  Maybe he and others will become top players but we are not in a position to wait to find out.  I think we should play Bent and find a way to get the ball to him cos he is our best striker by a mile.

I think he's 'prem quality' as he is at the moment.

So, his ego is the problem, except his ego is deserved?

I think there's a definite element of "we're not worthy" around Bent with some Villa fans.

Didn't realise that James Collins Junior went to Swindon, you just know he's going to score against us.
