Best and worst loan signings.
« on: October 15, 2012, 07:17:20 PM »
After reading the other thread asking who our first ever loan signing was, I thought I would ask this. I suppose a club of our stature doesn't dip into the loan market very often but it would be interesting to hear who you think our best and worst ones were. I'd probably go for Kyle Walker as my favorite. I thought he had a very good impact, especially for a full back. Carlton Cole for my worst. Thought he would bang them and believed that even more after he scored on his debut. Ended up with a Heskey-like strike rate.

I was thinking of Jenas but thought it harsh considering he didn't really play.

That's why that deal get's my vote. Harsh on the player but at least the like of Cole were on the ptich, even if we wished a lot of the time that they weren't.

Best - Benito Carbone.

Worst - was Eirik Bakke on loan? He was awful.

Did we not sign Carbone on a permanent deal? Basically I think we took over his Sheffield Wednesday contract which had about 8 months left to run. I may be wrong.

Anyway,

Best - Kyle Walker.
Worst - Can't Control.

The chaff more than outweighs the wheat:

Gabor Kiraly
Frank MacAvennie
Gustavo Bartlet
Phil Bardsley
Alan McLoughlan

Phil Bardsley
Alan McLoughlan

Three of them were trialists rather than loans and Kiraly was an emergency.

Hated Carlton Cole. While he was with us, I loved Robbie Keane.

It could be my memory playing tricks on me but I thought Bakke looked half-decent.

Milner, Walker, Keane, Carbone - we've had some pretty good players through on loan in the last few years.

Didier Agathe wasn't amazing and that Michael Bradley only played about once for us.

Robbie Keane did much better than I thought possible.

Carlton Cole was brilliant on his debut against Southampton and then cack ever after.
