So we have 36 hours left for RL and PL to make an effort to get some players in. Ok we are not going to make big signings we no that but that doesnt give them an excuse not to try.

For me we are abosutely desperate for a solid defensive midfielder and a centre half. Both with premiership experience. Ok so if hutton and warnock both leave which is expected that frees up wages of circa 60K.

If a bid had come in for Bent id let him go but dont think thats going to happen. His face doesnt fit and he doesnt work in the formation. Dithering again by PL either let him go or play him ..... we have done neither.

So what can we get in 36 hours .... below is a list of players with Premiership experience who I think we could go and get for small or no fees using the wages released by Warnock and Hutton.

DCM - Wilson Palacios of Stoke - isnt getting a regular game - loan deal. Combative and puts his foot in. Better than what we have IMO.

DCM - Nigel Reo Coker - short term deal to end of the season. Is a leader may lack a bit in quality but is a fighter again better than what we have got.

CB - Curtis Davies - has experience would get him for less than 2m I would suggest and again is better than what we have. He can slot in alongside Vlaar.

CB - Matthew Upson - not getting a game at Stoke - again short term loan deal till the end of the season.

Ok people may say these are rejects from other clubs and maybe they are but we are crying out for solid 7/10 performers and I feel the players above are better than what we have currently in those positions.

For me PL does not even consider players like the above which is ridicolous. We are in a battle and need solid players to then let the more creative players play. For me if given the tools weimann, nzog, benteke and gabby will score goals but we have to have a more solid base to drive on from. Currently this base is weak and ok the players above are hardly inspiring but they would make a differenc within the cost constraints we have.

What do others think? - any other players of this ilk which could be considered - you never know Paul Faulkner might actually be reading this and take inspiration

I'd sell bent if means we could get 2-3 players in ...however he will score goals wherever he goes next

Bent leaving now.......... Well anyone think we've agreed fee's with clubs and contracts with players and are just waiting for the money to come in for Bent to push them through?

I hope to god that is the case... I doubt it though.

yeah does seem unlikely which would mean a massive scramble tomorrow. Anyway Bent's not gonna take a massive paycut to go to stoke so unless we're gonna pay him off wages wise i can't see it happening

I would worry about us, and not what Bent is doing elsewhere. Weimann, Benteke, Gabby and NZogbia are enough going forward, Bent did ok last night, but if we got 11-12 million and signed 2 6m midfielders in his place I would be delighted now.

If we have sell Bent to sign some players then so be it. But firstly it's far too late and secondly it shows what a sorry state of a club we've become. Virtually everyone else is finding money(Everton, Newcastle, QPR) or boxing clever(Wigan). We appear to have neither.

What's the chances that Bent would fail the medical anyway ?

All good calls... although upson is very injury prone so it'll be another. Turn up, play one game, get injured back to square one.

Fair comment Maigrat about Upson.

I think unless bent does go and we have players lined up - which I dont believe to be the case............ I feel we have to go for players of  this ilk. They may not be wanted by their clubs but we are desperate for players of experience down the spine of the team.

Any other ideas guys and gals there must be others ??

Stoke have more money than you would think. I think they can afford his wages. Palacios, Kenwyne Jones, Charlie Adam, Peter Crouch will all be between 35k and 60k a week I reckon.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that we are going down - almost calm about it. Don't get me wrong I'll still be p1ssed off when we lose on Saturday - but there is less time between recovery and feeling calm again...

We are not going to get anyone in and we can't even get anyone to take our players for free. I've come to the conclusion that we are going to drop like a stone. I've come to terms that we are going down but it's the next few seasons I'm worried about. Leeds, Sheffield Wed, Forest, Leicester are just a few examples of big clubs who have dropped like a stone due to having incompetent people at the helm. I just hope it don't happen to us.

If we can get a rag tag band of misfits, and other clubs rejects together, on loan / short term contracts, and stay up, then at least we get a slice of the TV money next year. I'm not looking for the most talented players on the planet, brought in on multi million pound deals. I just want committed, experienced pros. If one or two of them have got a nasty streak, then all the better. The one thing I enjoyed last night, was the in the second half when we started kicking everything that moved in a black and white shirt. More of the same please!
