Since the Bent deal is it true we have only bought in 1 loan player in January?

It's true that since the Bent deal and now, there has only been 1 January!

Jean Makoun came in January as well.

Lets take two names mentioned - danny murphy who would maybe cost £1m and give him an 18 month contract - he would be far more use now than dale stephens who may cost £3m and in future be a very good player.

Someone like Murphy would improve things and still leave cash for other additions - and im sure he would rather play for villa than blackburn .

There are many players out there who would improve - we could get 3 in and stay up i believe with £10m to spend .

2 loan signings would be better than nothing.

Even if we went and bought 2 players in the Westwood mould I would be happy though.

Danny Murphy would be ideal.

Lets say for example -

Risse and murphy on 18 month deals
Upson on loan
Dale stephens

Four players there who would improve our side greatly at a cost of well under £10m , and i dare say all those players would probably come here .

Thats 2 midfielders , left back and centre half  covered.
There are players out there we can get.

We buy players for now to improve the team and try to avoid relegation- not players with future potential.

That sounds dangerously close to panic buying, which at best delays a problem and at worst amplifies it.

Getting a balance between instant impact and long term value, with a limited budget and needing to keep and eye on wages, whilst also having trouble attracting players given our present position.  Not easy, is it?

There isn't anything to stop up getting loan signings in. Which is, apart from anything else going on, why I just don't buy the "no signings" line.

I don't believe there is a wage cap either. I think each case is judged on value and if the figures go beyond that we don't do it. It's frustrating but understandable in some ways. Other clubs might be throwing all kinds of silly money about in order to get players in. Probably next years pocket money. I can understand that too. But maybe we 're taking the view that we'll do business when that all blows over. The last few hours of the window for instance. Too risky for my liking but we'll see how it pans out.

I am not impressed, at all, with how things are going and how we're going about it. Let me make that clear.

Loan signings are probably our best option right now.

Why not ? Signing two players on loan to improve the side could keep us up.

As said before if Hutton and Warnock are off the wage bill then loans at least should come in.Given our recent performances and results I don't think it will that hard to find players to improve us ..even if it is just short term

Loan signings are probably worse, it increases the wage bill again, something the club has been trying to reduce. A permanent couple of signings on lower wages but with signing on fee would, I imagine, be what Lerner would want.

The loan signing of keane probably kept us up last season. There is no problem bringing in a couple who could help keep us up this time around.

Do we risk losing £70m in tv rights for the sake of not spending £1m on a quality loanee?
