Great news we are finally linked with two separate transfer stories on the BBC... several clubs in for Benteke and Warnock to West Ham on a free. Turn the lights out, someone.

Eastie, I applaud you for at least trying to remain somewhat positive re the money situation.

I am not sure what game Lambert is playing, but when were here before under GED we spent some money and ensured survival.

Last season we got Keane, but at that time still had a number of very high earners on the books and had a lot more points in the bag.

This season we are in a desperate state, and it makes no sense financially not to give Lambert 10 million or so to get a few players in. The club intimated to the press there was money a couple of weeks back through the unofficial channels.

This is Lambert IMO.

Surely if he was saying there was no money when there was, he'd be on the first train to sackville?  Firstly for lying, and secondly so Lerner could let a new man spend it.

He never said there was no money , just that he will be careful and is not prepared to held to ransom on fees - i believe theres enough money to bring in 2 or 3 players not just one but i dont think they will be huge money signings .
I do strongly however believe there is at least £10m to spend and its down to lambert to spend it wisely.

No idea who he is looking at but we are looking to bring in 2 or 3 players .

Maybe we have another mon on our hands and the last day will be frantic?

As for first train to sackville risso - i so wish that was true but it is extremely unlikely to happen.
I share your frustration risso.

When did he ever say there no money?  -only quotes ive seen him say are below
The manager is holding back on spending it , im no fan of randy but the assumption of no money is wrong .

Manager Lambert has money to spend during January on possible newcomers and believes club owner Randy Lerner's investment in Villa should not be underestimated during his six years in charge.
The Villa boss said: "I always speak to Randy. I've always had a good relationship with him.
"If you look at the years he's been here, I don't know how much money he has put in but it's a lot of money.
"If a couple of players come in during January, then great. But you can't fault Randy for what he's done for this club, that's for sure.
"January always gives you an opportunity to bring people in.
"We have conversations all the time and it would be wrong for me to say there is 'X' amount available.

Seems like we are after the Holy grail.

An experienced clever player, who will accept circa £20k a week or less. A team in our position is going to have to chuck money at people to sign em..if they're experienced.

Could be right, i think we are having a problem attracting players to come here.

Who's after Benteke and how much money do they have?

Take your pick arsenal, liverpool spurs all mentioned -

Aston Villa are being circled by Premier League vultures preparing swoops for Christian Benteke.

Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been alerted by Benteke’s brilliant start to life in England with crisis club Villa.

Striker Benteke is one of the signings of the season, having already netted 11 goals – including a brace against Liverpool at Anfield.

Tottenham have so far shown the strongest interest, but Arsenal, City and Liverpool will also watch him carefully until the end of the season.

Villa would find it hard to keep Benteke if the club is relegated to the Championship and face a fight to retain the 22-year-old even if they stay up.

The news will spark even more worry among Villa fans, who have seen owner Randy Lerner cash in on Gareth Barry, James Milner, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing in recent years.

Villa are not in danger of losing Benteke before the winter transfer window closes because he has played for two clubs this season and the Belgium international is determined to try to help Paul Lambert’s men climb away from relegation.

Benteke feels a debt of gratitude to Lambert for signing him from Genk for £7.5million at the end of August, but that will be severely tested at the end of the season.

His value has doubled in just five months in England.

Spurs are still pondering whether to sign a new striker this month and retain a long-term interest in Leandro Damiao.

But the club will assess their options again in the summer, when Emmanuel Adebayor could be allowed to leave.

As a child, Benteke grew up supporting Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger admitted watching the player before he joined Villa.

With Darren Bent set to leave at the end of the season, Lambert will be desperate to keep hold of Benteke who signed a four-year contract in the summer. But he is watching Watford’s 24-year-old forward Troy Deeney just in case.

Despite Villa’s double cup upset last week by Bradford and Millwall, the club continue to insist they remain behind Lambert.

Lerner’s loyalty will be tested again, however, if Villa lose Tuesday’s vital relegation clash at home to Newcastle.

Troy Deeney! Wow, he's a bluenose as well.

Watching Troy Deeney is he.Would this be the Troy Deeney that was put away for GBH a couple of years ago.

What is the club coming to? Lambert wants to sign violent jailbirds now. Very surprised he didnt bring in Lee Hughes then.

We are sinking into oblivion.

Alex McLeish is rising in my opinion.
