I just got a hardon thinking of McGrath, Southgate and Ehiogu. Amazing back 3.

Did Alan Wright finish you off?
No, I left that to Franz Carr.

I hope his finishing off technique was better than his footballing technique!

His ball control wasn't the best when he was on the pitch...

Have a close look at Clark if you want to see a player more often out of position than Davies.  His positioning and ball watching are shocking.  I can't fathom why loads of supporters think the the dog's nob.

Housepoint for this fella. Glad someone else has spotted it.

And always "on his heels" meaning he is slow to react which is why he always appears to be diving in.  Not quick enough reactions for me to progress into a good centre back as shown by Torres at Chelsea and wasn't he marking Odemwinge on Saturday?

Clark was looking good in Novemer/December. He's a good prospect who ideally would have limited exposure in order to develop properly. Unfortunately we haven't had that luxury. If we can get another centre half in or get Dunne fit (or preferably both) we could take him out of the front line for a bit.

He shouldn't be a prospect any more though. At his age and the number of games he's played he should be demonstrating more than potential. Like others, I think he is distinctly average and his game is not really moving on.

I remember people saying the same things about Ugo in his first season.

Ugo in his first season was still a much better defender than Clark.  Also quicker too.

Clark isn't a premiership standard defender yet and I very much doubt he will be.  That's not saying he's shit as I think he has the makings of a good footballer but not one in the middle of our defence or any defence for that matter.

I still maintain if it's a choice of Davies or noone at centre half, I'd definitely take Davies. In our current position he's comfortably good enough.

This was my argument with NRC.

Except NRC isn't good enough. Davies is doing well in the championship. Reo-Coker has just been released by Ipswich.

I think this is over simplifying things though.

£1.5m fee, probably £500k player signing fee.  I'd guess at least £30k a week and at least a 3 year deal.

All in you'd be looking at the best part of £7m, as a minimum, for a guy who's already been here and wasn't good enough, is it really a good idea to tie that sort of money into someone on the basis of "it's better than nothing"?

In our situation we really should be signing people who are going to come straight in and be a big upgrade on what we have, I don't think Davies or NRC will be that.  If we signed them we'd get to the end of next season (at most) and be needing to replace them again as the younger players will have the experience and confidence (hopefully) to mean NRC and Davies go back to being very expensive bench warmers.

He's been released because he had a clause which allowed him to talk to top European teams
