Reading are considering a £1.5m move for Birmingham defender Curtis Davies, 27.

Full story: Daily Mirror

I'd consider it at that price.

I've said before i liked him when he was here. That awful game he had against Raipd Vienna did seem to make up a lot of people's minds about him which was a shame. Bearing in mind Baker seems to pick up an injury every 3 games, he might be worth having on the bench.

He had many awful games - pub player , no way would i want him back!

He even said himself he was a pub player

That was after his debut i think, which he was awful and he was honest enough about it. I did'nt think he was that bad up until he picked up that shoulder injury at Anfield.
His Debut was a game at home to Leicester in the League Cup, which we lost at home.

I was trying to remember who it was against.

I hope he's on the look out for a centre half though.

i don't think i've ever seen a defender so regularly out of position as Davies. Young used to do at least one double take a match when he suddenly found his centre-half more wide than he was. In that respect he'd probably fit right in after the last month.

Didn't Davies already have a history of shoulder injuries before he came to us?

Three weeks into the transfer window, and given our desperate, desperate, desperate situation, you'd think... ah, you know the rest.

Really Fletch? No, I think that would be a terrible move.

He's a much better player than when he was here previously and don't forget we evidently haven't got a pot to piss in, so he comes at the right price.

Plenty of centre halves have showed promise but not matured until Davies sort of age.

There are merits, at 1.5 million that I would consider it. He gets the odd goal, and in a back 3 that we play now I think he would probably excel. He is fairly speedy too, which we lack at the back. For 1.5 million, I think he would be a decent signing. And be a better bet than Lowton or Herd with Vlaar, Baker and Clark. Plus he can play the ball from the back.

I'm not sure. We did pay far too bloody much for him though.

Davies can be good when playing with a big commanding CB partner.  That allows him to play just behind in more of a sweeper role, as he did with Laursen.  That type of defender though is not what we need right now - the big commanding one is.  So he's just not what we need, even if £1.5m is a decent price for him.

Someone should start off a  new thread along the lines of. "Who out of MON's top10 transfer disasters could probably do a job for us now? Discuss"

like someone said Clampy , he looked alright at times playing with Mr Laursen , the problem is , we have not got Laursen in the team and could you imagine him at the back with Clark if Vlaar picked up another injury .  Scary thought .

Thought Davies was pretty close to cracking it at Villa before that shoulder injury. I liked him, but I think he's got too much to do to win people over if he came back.

I'll be honest, I'd be focusing firmly on 1-2 central midfield players coming in, and look for a six-month loan deal for a CB. Someone who knows the PL well enough. A short -term deal would give us cover for the remainder of the season, protecting us against Dunne relapsing and Baker's recurring knocks.

One or two transfer links emerging today.... Newcastle in for Gouffran, apparently, but offering just £750k... and a freelance journo I follow on Twitter claiming we've had a bid rejected for Danny Graham (how reliable he is, I don't know....)

Striker is the one position we don't need.  In fact, we could probably afford to sell one of Bent or Gabby to help bolster the rest of the side!

I think we WILL sign a midfielder of the defensive variety, but after that who knows?
