For fucks sake.
We have a forward line that can get us the goals we need, For McGrath's sake let's get a couple of midfelders in and a centre half.
It would completely transform us.

Seems 'bleedin obvious' doesnt it. But we should know on Ist Feb if Lambert' Lerner and Faulkner think along the same lines.

Or perhaps they will say nothing and do nothing especially if we get a couple of wins before the end of the month.

A centre half and a centre midfielder.

There. Its that easy. Now, go and get them.

Can't hep but think that this thread is similar to a group of guys who are slowly starving to death, tormenting themselves with descriptions of their favourite foods.

Even BBC and Sky are now of the opinion that Lerner is not going to sign anyone. Lets just hope for the best with what we've got.

Fernando, your points are excellent but you type like that bimbo with the big tits and short skirts I used to employ.

Any photos knocking around?

As regards the supposed lack of cash, I can understand Lerner's parsimony to an extent -  he's been here long enough to appreciate that January comes with a premium you don't necessarily pay in the summer. However, we made signings last year because they were necessary, not because we were adding to a bloated squad. For the amount we've taken in for our big players over the last four years it seems like we're very puritanical these days about spending even a percentage of what we made.

Two things are very clear to me: if we're pissing about over players that have a market value up to about £4 million, then Lerner's not going to spend anything; and whatever league we start the season in this August, there needs to be a bunch of signings so we're in the Premier League in season 2014/15.

Its almost good enough, its very, very close to being easily mid-table.

We should have beat Swansea and the Albion, at least a point against Southampton and murdered Bradford. Should.

We are two players light. If there isn't much cash (why Lerner, why?) then I can understand Lambert being careful. Getting it wrong could be catastrophic.
We should have beaten the Arse and Norwich at home as well.

Sorry but why should we have beaten Norwich at home?  We were awful that day!

I agree. I was watching the second half through my fingers.

I really don't think we are anywhere near as bad as people are making out.  Vlaar, Gabby and N'Zogbia coming back made a big difference.  Delph showed flashes of what could be if he improves his consistency.   We coped well with the early injury but Delph getting injured was a disaster.  The main problem we have is that some of the players lack experience and most importantly confidence, so when we do concede a goal they shit themselves and run around like headless chickens.

We've had a lot of bad luck with injuries.  If it was me, in this window I would put all my eggs in one basket and blow the whole budget (whatever it is) on a quality experienced central midfielder.  Gamble that we don't get lots more injuries.

A fully fit Stan in the centre of our midfield would make us a mid-table side in my opinion.

You only have to check the table to see how bad we've been this season.
And sadly, Petrov will never play for us again.

Have a look at the table and have a look at the results so far this season and the numerous (unwanted) records we have broken. Those tell us how good or bad we are. Yes glimpses of nice football here and there show promise but we need to start delivering and quick.

Every team has bad luck with injuries, it's part and pacel of the game these days and you need to have a squad capable of handling them. We don't and we struggle anyway with a fully fit first 11, who ever that is. We need several players of quality in by the end of the january window or our odds of survival this season are going to be seriously reduced.

I centre mid 100% but is centre back the most urgent place to strengthen after the centre mid? IMO no I'd go for a wing back.

We are still having the same discussion and names bandied about 3 weeks down the line - really dissappointed not to have seen 1 or 2 in by now as we have dropped points this month while waiting.

yes i agree and is that for john mcgrath's sake ?! A defensive midfielder in his mould who can come in and steady us ! I wonder whatever happened to his career after we released him?

It is not bloody rocket science is it. It is not for me even about experience. Another 2 of the standard of Westwood but obviously slightly different would be great in midfield, and a centre half that is actually a centre half!! Zat Knight is a better bet than Herd and Lowton dropping back in there.
