Boateng is off to the ACON so if we did get him we couldn't play for the best part of a month.Long term might be a good buy but we need players that can perform ASAP

He needs to be going to that tournament AND injured to be on our list of potential targets.

I take it dc5 that  you have heard the same as me regarding the lack of activity?

Once again the silence from Villa Park is deafening, as it has been for the last few years. They really do not have a clue about PR, I'm not expecting them to come out and tell us who they're going to sign but some sort of message to suggest there is a plan in place would be appreciated. At the moment the only thing for supporters is to look at our rivals improving as we continue to dive.

I know I shouldn't be but I'm still surprised by our lack of transfer activity.

Does anyone think we can stay up without at least 2, posssibly 3 signings?

Urgh.

Prior to Chelsea we were doing OK with the players we had, so I wouldn't say it's impossible.

We'd need Vlaar and/or Dunne to be fully fit for the rest of the season and to somehow get the midfield ticking again.  Some problems can be addressed on the training pitch just as well as they can in the transfer market.

Nah, what would that do, really?

We don't need a message saying they're trying to sign players (clubs never do that), we just need them to actually sign some players.

Prior to chelsea we were in the bottom 6 with 3 away wins and  3 home wins in the previous 12 months - hardly doing ok .

No chance! Only our deluded board think it's possible by not spending.

Seeing as the question was can we stay up and we weren't in the bottom 3 at that point I'd say we were doing ok is a fairly accurate statement, as in we were doing an OK job of staying out of the bottom 3.

For what it's worth I personally think 1 signing would be enough to keep us safe so long as the injury problems clear up and the signing is the right one.

Regarding messages from the club, I've seen things from Paul Lambert 3-4 times in the last fortnight saying that he's trying to get a couple in, is that not a message from the club to say we're trying to sign some players, that doesn't say anything specific (which you've said would be ok).

I only say it because I've read the "we've heard nothing from from the club" line a fair few times and it's clearly not true, we've heard that he wants to get a couple in, but that players like Lescott and Parker are unlikely.

Just because you don't like the communication they've given doesn't mean there's been no communication.  Likewise if you think what they've said and what they're doing aren't the same thing no amount of comments from the club are going to make you happy as it's only when they make signings that it will actually prove you wrong.

In fairness he is the first person to tell it in the transfer thread!
