I recall in the days of MON, how certain posters used to get their knickers in a major twist because of how late in the window we seemed to do business. My attitude then was that it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, as long as we get the right man/men in.

Fast forward to this window and for once, I share in people's exasperation of not doing business as quick as possible. Every point could be crucial, as well as the chance of getting into the League Cup final. We already missed a chance against Southampton of picking up some valuable points. West Brom are on the ropes a little after a good start. If we had a new signing or two to freshen things up I think we could take them. It doesn't look like this is going to happen though. So who is to blame?

I'm sure others have noticed that Sunderland have been quick out of the blocks this window and made signings. This leads me to wonder whether it was Randy and his cohorts style of doing business that meant signings didn't happen until the last minute. People like to think they know the goings on behind the scenes, but on the face of it, it looks possible that both MON and Lambert may well have put forward players to be signed, but our board is too inept to get the business done promptly.

I think MON had a reputation for doing late deals at Celtic as well, didn't he?  Plus Lambert's summer deals were more evenly spread out with the usual small flurry towards the end of the window.

The fact we haven't anyone in yet says to me there's not as much money as we all hoped would be available.
I don't think there is any money available judging by the current inactivity.

Capable of playing a holding role in the middle, but also has good penetration down both sides.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert may hijack Fulham’s bid for Derek Boateng.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder, a Ghana international, is available to leave FC Dnipro in Ukraine this month.

Boateng has had talks and a medical over a switch to Fulham, pending a work permit, but Villa are considering a late move.

Lambert has admitted he wants a new holding midfielder to protect his leaky defence and has turned down a return to Villa for free-agent Nigel Reo-Coker.

From what I remember Boateng was 1 of the 3 man midfield (with Annan and Asamoah) for Ghana at the world cup.  From what I remember all 3 looked very good players in that tournament so, if I'm thinking of the right person, I wouldn't be upset by that.

SO depressing when you don't log in for an hour and see that this thread is still on 344 pages. You know straight away that we definitely haven't signed anybody since you last logged in :-(

Boateng is off to the ACON so if we did get him we couldn't play for the best part of a month.Long term might be a good buy but we need players that can perform ASAP

He needs to be going to that tournament AND injured to be on our list of potential targets.
