I'd rather we signed Joey Barton.

Barton would do an immediate job for us, even if he is a bit of an idiot he is a very good player.

Hangeland I would risk, dodgy knees or not he seems to play regularly enough at Fulham and we only need 16 games out of him anyway!

I'd have Joey Barton no-where near this club, the blokes a cock. He's more interested in starting arguments on twitter nowadays.

Aston Villa are set to beat Sunderland to the signing of Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko, 22.

How would signing a 22 year old from French League meet our  most important short coming  of  "team lacking in age and PL experience"?

Thats my take as well.
Wasn't JM II going to be the next great thing also ?

I'd rather have Dick Barton!  Well he is a special agent!  One for the more elderly readers there.

Sissoko is a much better player than Makoun. He offers more physically and although young has plenty of experience including playing for France.
He would be ideal for us I think. But until they play in this league you can never be sure.

All players represent a risk though. The only "sure things" cost tens of millions and even then its hit and miss.

Signing Barton would be equivalent of crashing your ship into an iceberg to put out a fire.

It won't happen, but it would be brilliant if we signed Sissoko plus a couple of defenders.

He's got 5 caps for France and has experience in the Champions league.

Yes and the French league is getting better. Experience in the Premier League isn't the be all, we just generally need experience at a similar level. I mean while Holman, KEA and Vlaar are all experienced internationals, the latter two have had injury problems and trouble settling in and the Dutch league is pretty poor in truth too.

We desperately need quality, people with a track record at a top level. Sissoko looks a decent player. Get him in as well as another midfielder, perhaps with Prem experience, and we'll improve.
To compare to Jean 2 before we've even signed him is pointless. Jean was unlucky in many regards. We'll never know whether he could have been good enough here had he settled and/or been given a fair chance.

I would take Sissoko and Stephens at the moment to strengthen the midfield, and go all out for a good centre half. Oh and riise on a free. No brainer that one.
