Don't we need players who can put the ball on Bentekes head from closer than the half way line? Seems the best chance of getting a goal in the last few weeks.

I think our problems run a bit deeper than that; we create chances but don't take enough of them, the defence seem to be on a mission to discover new ways to concede and the midfield lacks leadership and the ability to win the ball.

My gut feeling is if we get a bit of experience back in the centre of defence and an organiser in midfield we'll give ourselves a chance.

I watched some of that, the left back caught the eye for the team in red. I wasn't paying a lot of attention as you might guess.

Edit; in answer to the now deleted post about the Getafe game.

That would definitely help, but the more times I see us play (particularly at home) the more apparent it becomes that we desperately need some quality in wide areas.

Sid was in the airport. Getafe is now ruled out.

Well if the press are to be believed, this January is the utlimate fire sale with foreign clubs desperate to sell their best players to English clubs. Lets hope they're very desperate.

Not that it's the slightest bit to do with Villa, but what's Barton on about? I always had the impression Hamann was as dull as a dishcloth.

Let's hope our soon-to-be-fucking-off scout hasn't lost his passport

Aye, though you'd sort of hope he did all the scouting a month or more back and his reports have been sitting in Lambert's draw gathering dust waiting for him to get the go-ahead. If not, he's got a busy few weeks coming up

Gathering dust being the operative words

I'm new to the old Twitter lark but I've just picked up a tweet on some transfer site that Villa are close to completing the signing of a CB and a CDM.

A walkie talkie and a Cadburys Dairy Milk, probably.

Fatty Dunne will swipe the latter no doubt.

Me too Tom. A goal one end don't half take the pressure off the other, and at the moment we really lack that unpredictable player to get us half a yard ahead of the defence. I actually think Benteke would be the most effective man wide of a 3 pronged attack because he commits and takes players on. Gabby has lost pace and never had a trick, Weimann is a finisher, although there appears to be the stirring of life in Charlie NZog, so that may help.

I have been impressed with Delph lately too. There are some decent players, but as well as the centre half and centre mid, a wide/ creative force would be very useful.

Diid was fond of the GG's and developed a thirst whilst he was on Merseyside.

A few years in Liverpool can do that to a person, even a German.

That must be a parody account  (of Didi's, that is).  Sounds like a Newcastle fan with an axe to grind.

Don't think it is, his profile has the verified account tick next to it

Twitter is the worst thing to happen to humanity since flared trousers. The world will be undeniably better off when it dies.

Not sure it will TBH. Well not the concept of Twitter anyway. It is just the easiest way to communicate and quickly share information.
