My suggestion is to try and identify three or four experienced players approaching the end of their Premiership careers - get them on loan  until the end of the season - pay them a decent  whack but promise a huge bonus if we stay up - if they aren`t cup tied they will get a chance to have one last chance at silverware and a Wembley appearance. Who they are is the tough bit !

Given Randy's apparent reluctance to buy experienced players on longer contracts, this is precisely what we should be looking to do. Lescott for instance may cost a couple of million in wages until the end of the season but he's exactly what we need in the middle of our defence. The fact that he's a Villa fan should guarantee he'll play with honour and commitment.

You must be in dreamland, Dick.

By the way, did I ever thank you for flattening Beelzebub that time?

It was my pleasure.

My point was if an alleged big businessman doesn't see that paying top wages to two very short term top loanees would keep this team in the Premier League and subsequently be recouped by a huge cut from the new tv deal he's a fool.

Even if we just got Lescott in on loan to partner Vlaar it would allow us to switch Clark to midfield to provide the strength needed in front of the defence.

Players we could get on loan:

Huddlestone
Rosicky
Malouda
Palacios
Upson

Not saying they're great,  just that they don't get games at their clubs so could be got until the end of the season.

Lambert must be looking to strengthen. I suspect it'll be from the continent; whcih means they'll have a 'running in' period. Not ideal at all.

Not ideal, I agree, but give his financial restraints may be he'll get lucky. The one thing he must not do is to dip into the lower English leagues again, that would just compound the problem.

Also not ideal when your Head of European Scouting quits to be the assistant coach of some small tean in Germany.

Who wants to be a scout for a club with no money?

NRC in. Warnock back involved. Instantly a stronger team.

Lets get NRC back to save us, like he did for Bolton last season.

Did you not realise there is only one defensive midfielder in the whole world according to some lot on here?

Anyway, he's pulling up trees at Ispwich...

Because that's what we need.. Smart comments like that.

Facts are, we are shit and NRC is an improvement on nothing, yes nothing, because that's what we have in midfield, nothing, especially defensively.

Hopefully we will sign someone better, because there are loads of better players out there, but we are desperate and need players now.

NRC is available, and is better than nothing, fact.

Better than nothing, but he's going to cost, unless he's wage-free.

Anyway, that's a nonsense argument. Sticking me or you there would be "better than nothing"' in the literal sense.

He doesn't have to be better than nothing, he has to be better than what we already have.

I love the way some of us have decided he's the answer. He's a player who really sums up the woeful financial mismanagement of this club. He was utterly shit when he was here, and there's a reason why he is being released by the mighty Ipswich.

It's not as if we haven't had a recent reminder of how gash he is. He spent most of the other afternoon getting bypassed by the very same shit midfield you think he'll improve.

Last I heard uncle Harry was bigging him up and expressing an interest "he's a lovely lad, I took him from Wigan, yeh we may be able to do something , Tony's a very good mate of mine "

Palacios is worth getting on loan.

Reo Coker is worth a 6 month deal with a 12 month extension if we stay up. He was immense for 6 months under Houllier/ Gmac and instrumental in our survival.

He is not the answer to all our worries, but Lambert won't play Warnock, won't play Clark in midfield and we seem to be absolutely skint.

I don't care how much he costs, if he can make any kind of difference, no matter how small it may be.

People remember how bad he was, but also forget some of his outstanding performances like our 3-1 win at anfield as an example.

If we don't sign a midfielder before the baggies game, it's not acceptable

On that form maybe, but having watched him lately he seems a shadow of the player he was 2 years ago.

No to NRC. There's a reason why he's playing for Ipswich and not in the Premiership for someone like Reading or Southampton.

It's a 'smart' comment because I'm sick to the fucking back teeth of reading that we 'need' to sign a player who wasn't good enough when he was with us, and has been a sack of shit for the two clubs he's had since.
