According to today's mail sissoko looks to be slipping away-

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is close to signing French star Moussa Sissoko, 23, in a £3.5million deal.
The midfielder is being made available by his club Toulouse as his contract is up in the summer and they don't want to miss out on a fee.

I said this the other day, but if MON adds another young, overseas player to the Sunderland squad, early in the window, then despite the fact it affects me directly not one jot, I'll still be so, so pissed off. I know it's irrational, but there we are.

Seems most press are reporting sissoko as being poised to join Sunderland with some saying the fee is £2.5m and low wages in comparison.
Mon recently signed a young French midfielder too, seems he's finally got his scouting network sorted.
Or, perhaps our club is poorly run, doesn't have very good personnel to liaise transfers, or other business deals for that marter

Indeed. I wonder if Greg has the right of it with regard to Short being a rather more astute Chairman than perhaps MON's last employer.

Our problem is not the manager, I believe in him and he must be given time. Our problem is money, we either don't have (in which case lets shut up, be real and get on with it) or Lerner does not wish to release money (in which case my long standing support for him has just finished)

I'm sorry but how can you believe in a manager that has allowed us to suffer the heaviest defeat in our history , a heavy loss to a 4th division side, least goals scored, most goals conceded, worst start to a Premier league season ever.I'm really struggling to see what there is to believe in.Another defeat today and he should be out of the door, regardless of how many managers we've previously had.

He has my support. We survived last year by the skin of our teeth, have had an injury crisis, however, more or less to the man his signings have looked the part (I will give the young players plenty of slack and I actually think Karim will do well in a balanced midfield)
With hindsight selling Collins was a mistake, but most (myself included) wanted him out the club. We could do with him now.

Its up to Randy whether we stay up and at the moment I've got to believe he will invest.

Sacking Lambert would be a joke, if you think he is a failure do you trust Lerner to do any better?

Lambert could have signed more players on the Summer,he had the finances. He didn't and defended his decision his to buy young and hungry players even when it was clear to everybody that we needed much more experience, especially as he had frozen out Warnock and Hutton. The defence was ridiculously inexperienced even when Vlaar was in and we've been shipping goals for fun all season.Lamberts fault

Maybe you should consider a name change? Hard to disagree with what you say though.

We are in the mire no mistake, but there are too many on this forum who are brilliant with perfect hindsight.

We are were we are and maybe PL was not the right choice but he was a pretty popular choice at the time.

We just have to sit tight now IMO and see what happens this month in terms of players in and hope we can survive until next season.

Maybe, just maybe, Paul Lambert doesn't think it's a great idea in a transfer window where player prices are already far too inflated, to come out and advertise to the world, including other clubs and their agents, that he's got x amount of money to spend. Your just asking to get fleeced if you do that.

The truth of the matter is nobody here knows exactly how much money he has been told he can spend on transfers, and what kind of wages he can offer.

What we do know is that Randy Lerner has backed all of his managers with a significant amount of cash for transfers, including Lambert in the summer, and that we are the fourth highest spenders in the premiership over the last few years.

Given those facts I find it a little hard to understand why so many people are keen to jump on Lerner's back about not investing in the club, or supposedly not making funds available for Lambert. All the quotes we have heard from Lambert can be read in a variety of ways and don't really veer from his general philosophy of investing in cheaper hungry players rather than expensive big names.

Yes I'm frustrated we've not signed anyone yet, we need players in, and the sooner the better, but maybe it's because it's actually difficult to get the right players in during this transfer window, especially when we are where we are in the league.

Boz, hindsight or not I do not think after today we can sit tight, I think we have to change something and if RL is not going then PL has to.

Lerner has fiddled whilst VP burns and that will be his legacy.  Forget the Holte pub, free coaches and scarves...everyone knew we needed players in and nothing has been done.

Can we start selling off these garbage young players? Make room for respectable and capable players. Bannan, Delph, Albrighton, even Clark prove your worth or get out. It's comical that the Villa academy players are the worst of the bunch. Talk about lack of pride.

Get em off the books and bring in TALENT.

If he's not getting backed then Lambert has to walk out. There is no way we will stay up without major signings.

If he is getting backed then we need at the very least a quality centre mid, centre back and left back PDQ. Preferably before West Brom.

D-Day next week. Reckon either PL will get the bullet or a player will arrive by Wednesday.*
