That article is a fucking depressing read.

The club just feels like it is biding time before dropping out of the top flight.

It would take a special kind of business expertise to manage your club out of the top flight just as a gigantic television deal kicks in. Unfortunately, Randy seems to have that expertise in spades.

Everything coming out of the club in recent times stinks of acceptance of mediocrity. No wonder we can't get people to come to the matches.

It isn't inspiring, but at the same time I can see where Lambert is coming from. I still think if you stick a big strong centre half and centre mid in our side, and get a couple of loans, we will be fine.

Vlaar and Westwood being fit is a big bonus tomorrow. Dunne being back by the end of the month is too. If we lose faith completely because the manager has said we are not going to spend huge money on 1 player this window, we might as well give up. There are options. If by some miracle he convinced Diame to come for 3.5m, and got some german centre half that Henke finds for 2-3 million, and signs Stephens who is still being linked, automatically we are a much stronger side and squad. Add a loan forward too, and we are looking ok with not much money spent. Lets see what tomorrow, and the end of the month bring.
I like how positive you are but there is a load of 'if's' in there.

There are, but there are opportunities to get good players without spending 60k a week on wages for them too. We have to build from scratch, as too many senior players have come in on obscene money and done nothing to pay it back. We still have loads. Ireland, Given, NZogbia, Hutton, Warnock, Dunne - sero contribution for what - 20 million a season ish. Lambert has shown he can find players last summer, his remit for scouting is different now to then, so lets hope he can find some more. I am not going to get too downhearted about the window until the door slams shut, there is no point.

I will be gutted if we don't look more organised on the pitch tomorrow and don't play with more discipline at the back though. That is more important than anything at the moment.

We are run by an absolute imbecile.  Lerner has not got the first clue.  If we don't strengthen properly we are nailed on relegation certs.

I know Lambert is a dour sort of fellow by nature, but telling Villa fans they're living in 'Dreamland' when it comes to buying decent players isn't exactly a great way of pulling back the missing thousands is it? Still, he seems to be powerless to change it as Lerner fumbles around without a clue to be found.

If Lambert has not got the funds what the feck is he supposed to do to be fair? Time for Randy to show he has faith in him

I wonder if Lerner thinks our current squad is actually serviceable and that the manager is the problem?

Is that what you really think?

I dont think he said that did he? It seemed like a loaded headline.

Well I would have thought if he had said it it would have been almost prime TV, instead it was totally different :)

He says not more than 6 million on a player, not really a shock, but the emphasis without saying it is all about wages I am sure, especially ending up with a player you don't want. Beye, Sidwell, Davies, Hutton, Warnock, Reo Coker, Cuellar, etc etc, all players who have left for nothing or huge losses, after being on big wages and then never played. We might not like it very much, but he is right in the way we do have to box clever so to speak.

If we spend 10m on 3 players, but they are through the middle and give us a bit more of a physical edge and help us calm down a bit, we will be fine. It is not about huge money, it is about getting 3-4 of the right players through the spine of the team to make us stronger, which he has said himself.

I read it as we haven't got  more than 6m.

"Lambert was also pressed on how much transfer cash he would be given and ruled out the prospect of spending more than £6 million on a player.

“Yes, it’s probably fair to say we’ve not got that, so you have to box clever,” he said. “A lot of things get dominated by finance"

Seems pretty clear to me that without sales we've probably got a total of about 6m. Add in wages and i think we can forget getting 2 or 3 players in. One looks the most we can hope for

No. I still have some hope that Lambert will be backed and that not even Lerner is THAT stupid.

I agree with that Ozz, but at some point we are going to have to assemble a more experienced squad or we are just going to keep ending in the position we have found ourselves in the past few seasons - a few injuries and we are right down to the bare bones and relying on fielding too many inexperienced players.  Yes, the Sidwells, Cuellars and Reo Cokers were overpriced and overpaid, but we need a few of those types (but maybe cheaper options) to give the squad a bit of depth.

Lerner can now really go fuck himself. I've had enough of this bullshit. They are totally preparing for us to go down. If that is the case (which it seems highly likely) then I'm not ploughing anymore money into the club this year what so ever.
I will just catch the games on the net and save myself a fortune.
Its beyond a joke now and what hurts the most is it seems to us all that RL really does not care. If he did we would be bringing in the x4 players we are desperate for, just to give us a chance to stay up!

Good.  Does that mean you'll stop moaning about it?

I Fancy Randy has pulled the rug,Just waiting for Lambert to fall.

So do I , defeat today I think would see lambert go and di Matteo in , If that were the case I could see why randy hasn't given lambert money but would expect any new manager to be given funds to get us out of this mess.

Let me be clear, I am not and have never called for lambert to go and I hope we win today and turn it around but I believe randy has maybe lost faith in him and today could be the tipping point.

Lambert cannot keep this club up without financial backing and we know Lerner has the money - relegation would cost the club and Lerner far more than spending  £10m now .
