He says not more than 6 million on a player, not really a shock, but the emphasis without saying it is all about wages I am sure, especially ending up with a player you don't want. Beye, Sidwell, Davies, Hutton, Warnock, Reo Coker, Cuellar, etc etc, all players who have left for nothing or huge losses, after being on big wages and then never played. We might not like it very much, but he is right in the way we do have to box clever so to speak.

If we spend 10m on 3 players, but they are through the middle and give us a bit more of a physical edge and help us calm down a bit, we will be fine. It is not about huge money, it is about getting 3-4 of the right players through the spine of the team to make us stronger, which he has said himself.

Sissoko still fits in that category.

As I say in my article...just kidding. I've never really thought Villa were going to splash a big chunk of what Lerner's made available on one player; it seems unnecessary. It's painfully obvious our choices are limited: part of the problem is that your number one targets for getting you out of a relegation scrap probably won't sign on when you're in one. What Lambert needs to ensure is that he's not sold a pup that seems like it could be the missing piece. That's why the silence is somewhat comforting - at least you can't accuse him of panic buying

I think its probably best that Randy starts looking for buyers now in all honesty.
If he hasn't already.

The trouble is if Lambert falls the Villa go down. Relegation is not an option. Lerner has to invest.
I just hope what Lambert said today is just bluff. Christ I hope it is anyway.

Put it this way, I wouldn't expect us to splash the cash, if we get relegated I'm gunning for Randy

Paul Faulker 25/03/2012.
“It’s obviously been a challenging year in parts this season, but it’s all about continuing to get better. And we’re looking to bring players into the squad to do that and then grow our own,” said Faulkner.

“We’re seeing some very talented young players in the reserve team who will also play a part next year.''
So playing the reserves was always the plan.
Time for Randy And Paul to go!

We should be gunning for him now. The way he has run this club over the last 3 seasons is laughable. He's turned us from top 4 contenders to relegation candidates. The man is a walking disaster for the Villa.

It seems bizarre how the club were at pains to get a manager in that was more in keeping with their dreams of footballing beauty, yet apparently expect it to be done on peanuts. I'd be fascinated to know how they sold the club to Lambert - he had a secure job at Norwich, the fans loved him...something tells me he probably wasn't being told exactly everything.

That article is a fucking depressing read.

The club just feels like it is biding time before dropping out of the top flight.

It would take a special kind of business expertise to manage your club out of the top flight just as a gigantic television deal kicks in. Unfortunately, Randy seems to have that expertise in spades.

Everything coming out of the club in recent times stinks of acceptance of mediocrity. No wonder we can't get people to come to the matches.

According to the Daily Mail article we may have interested in Diame. Can't see it myself, but he is the mould of midfielder we should be going for. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2260989/Paul-Lambert--Aston-Villa-spend-big.html

It isn't inspiring, but at the same time I can see where Lambert is coming from. I still think if you stick a big strong centre half and centre mid in our side, and get a couple of loans, we will be fine.

Vlaar and Westwood being fit is a big bonus tomorrow. Dunne being back by the end of the month is too. If we lose faith completely because the manager has said we are not going to spend huge money on 1 player this window, we might as well give up. There are options. If by some miracle he convinced Diame to come for 3.5m, and got some german centre half that Henke finds for 2-3 million, and signs Stephens who is still being linked, automatically we are a much stronger side and squad. Add a loan forward too, and we are looking ok with not much money spent. Lets see what tomorrow, and the end of the month bring.
