Said it earlier, I think at least part of the problem is that we're having to address an area that we thought we were ok in.  We really shouldn't need to sign a central defender as we have 2 experienced internationals in the squad who should be able to bring through the promising youngsters.

I think he had a signing like Coutinho or Aubameyang lined up to be a big creative influence (and he went for Dempsey in the summer remember, so that money is probably still there) and he doesn't want to let that one go but is wanting to add the defender on top.

The extra defensive midfielder is the tough one because I don't really know what to think about that, maybe KEA has been a big disappointment, but if so will it be easy to get the board to fund a replacement for him after 6months?

I know it is a name that has been discussed consistently on here forever but the defensive midfield replacement I

would go for is NRC. Think he would jump at the chance to come back and would walk into our midfield, in fact he could hop

into our midfield on one leg. Can't imagine he is currently on

 huge wages either.
Moving on...

We are desperate, but we are trying to improve the quality. NRC is not that person by a long way ........

He isn't an improvement on the lightweights we have now? He isn't the most technically proficient footballer I agree but

atleast he gets a tackle in and may actually win the ball back. It's where we are now. We are leaking goals at an alarming

rate and have one if not the worst defences I have seen in the prem and putting Bannan, Ireland, Westwood or anything we

have at the moment in front of them is part of that.
But is he the only other midfielder on the planet?
Our midfield waltzed past him all day long against Ipswich

PL will walk on Saturday if we lose.Just look at the body language of the man.
He has the look of a man who had opened the box of his Internet bride and found out its got a dick.

If this were the case perhaps the chick with a dick could be given a run out at centre half?

I think he has the look that Mr O'Neill had in his final season.

NRC's agent apparently got in touch with Villa offering his services. Non starter.

O Neill some believe walked because of financial reigning in by Lerner, lambert spoke to o Neill about the job before he came to us , can lightning strike again and would lambert walk out  if Lerner has maybe moved the goalposts  and not given him the money he expected ?

I agree his body language recently has looked very different to the touch line hopping manager that arrived only a few months ago.

Agreed

I can't believe people are suggesting that he's worth having now, given that when he was here a few years ago, he was utterly, utterly mediocre.

Moussa Sissoko is the midfield answer to what we need.

Sissoko available for 4 mil?  That's a steal... I would cream my pants if we could get him.  I have no worries about his ability to adjust to the prem in an instant.

6'3" 200 pound midfielder with energy, strength in the tackle, good skills and almost Gabby quick would be a wet dream.

He would be a long way towards it for certain. Him and the lad from Osasuna who looks a beast together in there would start to give us a platform to go forward from!

I would take mediocre now if it could tackle. Ireland or Reo Coker?

Less he's 3.5 million euros apparently. It's an absolute steal and perfect for our midfield issue. Then we could look at defence.

Neither of them. Ireland isn't a tackling midfielder anyway, so it's not really relevant.

If we were looking at NRC and took him, it should be because he was the best available, not because he's played here once before and he's on a free. There's a reason he'd be free, he's not very good.

It might look like a decent idea now, but it'd take minutes of his first appearance until we started remembering how he can't pass the ball more than five yards, isn't such a tough tackler after all, and has absolutely no technical ability.

He's one of the most limited players I've seen play for us in a long, long time.

It's also worth noting that the last time he was seen at VP, ie last week, he was getting bypassed by our useless midfield, at will.

It is one of the most damning indictments of MON's purchases that we spunked 8m on him.
