If that's true about RDM it just shows how utterly inept the owners are.

He won with Chelsea because he allowed the egos run the team. They didn't want AVB.

Villa is a different proposition.

I don't think changing manager would negate our need for a strong and experienced defender and midfielder.

Certainly agree with you , but why would it stop us signing those kind of players ?

Vision of Ireland and Hutton pinning up team sheet , worrying.

It wouldn't.  What I was getting at is that, IMO, our problems are player based and not manager based.

He couldn't do any worse than Lambert, and might actually organise the defence a little better.  Still, let's hope against hope that Lambert stops humiliating us.

But is it not the manager who buys the players and decides the tactics?  I'm not anti lambert but I do have serious doubts regarding him.

Changing the manager isn't the answer. Getting in a couple of quality defenders and midfielders is the answer, combined with improved defensive coaching. It's as simple at that.

How about Gattuso on a 2 year deal? Left milan for Sion last summer (I think). Could do a job marshalling our kids for at least half a season and I wouldn't think he'd cost the earth at his age. He's 35 but if he still has the rage inside him he could be perfect.

I mentioned Rino in June as below.  We should have gone in for him.  Past his best but could more than do a job.

Not entirely true.Lambert has been tactically inept on more than one occasion.Tuesday being the most apparent against 4 th division opponents

Di matteo is a significantly worse manager than Lambert in my opinion.

Strictly speaking, he could do worse than Lambert.

There is no guaranteed "better results" option, no matter how poor results have been until now.

As for organising the defence, in the season he got sacked, Albion shipped 52 goals in 30 games - 1.73 goals per game, so not significantly better than our ratio.

There's not really any evidence he'd tighten up the defence at all. I seem to recall Albion fans moaning about that when he was with them

I wouldn't say significantly worse , his managerial cv stands up to lambert at Milton Keynes and also getting Albion promoted, that's without Chelsea - not saying he would be my choice but significantly worse , no.
