Jesus.  Gallas, Carragher and Upson. How desperate things have things become?

Jesus would be good right now

He'd be hopeless...he no good on crosses.

But claimedly he's best there is on miracles, that's what we need now more than crosses.

With jesus' record with Bread and Fish you just know Dunne would give it a go with Pies and Guinness though.

Got a feeling Bradford won't have that young Bermudan striker for the second leg. Deano was raving about him even before kick off. Think he will be Wolves bound!

I am refusing to buy the idea that there are no big useful centre backs in the Championship. I would take Chester and Watts from Leeds and Hull over the ones we have at the moment, at least they look the part. Clark moves to left back where he would be much more solid, and we could build a real back 4.

Guzan back in for the second leg too, convinced the 3rd Given could have saved.

Palacios on loan for 6 months too must be worth a go to stiffen up the midfield.

Hangeland is definitely a good option.

Buy a solid top centre half for the long term, loan or buy a good centre half some top club aren't using to cover Vlaar if his injuries are persitent.
Buy a top defensive midfielder, maybe an all rounder with good passing and an energetic attacking playmaker with vision. And a left back, definitely.

Do it now.

                               Guzan
                Douglas               Vlaar
Lowton                                               Cavanda
                               Sissoko
               Westwood          Stephens
                              Coutinho
           Weimann                        Benteke

There, something like that.

The thing is that's 5 more players who've never played in the premier league and would need time to settle.

Hangeland ahead of Douglas for the time being.
Agree with Sissoko and Coutinho.
Not sure at left back.
Even if we sign Stephens I wouldn't want him straight into the team.

You might - he is 6"1 and can pass to a team mate. As such, is more use than Bannan and Delph.

for all of the shit thrown at Stoke, and believe me I never want to see us play football as they do, Pulis has managed to put together one fo the very best defences in the top flight for very little money. When you consider what we've shelled out and discarded over the part fives years on our defence including goalkeeper in that time it makes you cry. Pulis had a plan to stay in the top flight and as detestable as it can be most of the time it has worked. I completely appreciate that our targets should be set higher than Stoke, but surely it cannot be that hard to get 4 defenders to work together and execute the basic principles of defending? McLeish failed at it with more experienced players and Lambert has taken that to another level albeit with much less experience.

What we need is a player or two in that defence to once again instil confidence. Somebody who is a proven leader. Guzan and Lowton are fine. Clark and Baker will be in time, but only if they are brought along by a strong character or two. If Vlaar and Dunne were a CB's today we wouldn't be discussing some of the complete batterings we've taken. As it is we are. As for the LB, I'm massively concerned and truth be told we've never replaced Freddie. I don't know if Bennett will make it, but right now neither he, Stevens or Lichaj are the answer.

The detail we can discuss till the cows come home its the principle of what needs doing asap that we can all see so surely this can't be evading those who are supposed to be running a major premiership football club?

Don't go in much for this Twitter nonsense but "Aston Villa" is trending worldwide. We're that much of a laughing stock!

it doesn't matter. All that shit is temporary. What remains are the issues that are local. Only a few short weeks ago (yes, it feels like much longer) we had just beaten Liverpool and people were talking glowingly of us again. It's that quick that it goes from good to shit and to good again. We have to look after our own business quickly irrespective of what anyone else outside of this parish says, writes or tweets.

I'll never ever be embarrassed of this club no matter what happens and anybody that wants to have a go at us can suck my swingers.
