I think two or three decent signings would make a world of difference. One or two defenders and a midfielder. But obviously we need both PL quality and expeience from them. Even if only on loan. Lescott would be a huge boost. As has been mentioned Hangeland and Distin are coming to the end of their contracts, as is Toure.

Lambert needs to get his arse in gear and sign some experience quickly. I know its early in the window but frankly the end of month could be too late for both us and him. We could be out of both cups and bottom 3 by then.

I think a signing or two behind the scenes could also make a world of difference. A coach, a DOF, just someone to help an inexperienced manager who's unable to properly organise a very inexperienced group of players right now.
Otherwise I can't really see even 2-3 decent signings making a huge difference. Enough to survive perhaps, but not with any degree of comfort.
We definitely need better players in though. That's patently clear.

Signing 2-3 players to shore up the defence would make a hell of a difference. And it could be the difference between PL or Championship football next season. Nothing could be more important than that.

Unfortunately I don't foresee Lambert making the right signings, or having enough backing to do so. Arguably, aside from Lowton at RB, our back four is complete tosh. Vlaar might prove his worth  once he returns but we've no one at CH good enough to keep the line together and solid. My worry is we'll struggle to attract anyone good enough.

Baker and Clark are both good enough alongside someone else, together they're just too inexperienced.  We really need a leader back there to organise things and let the younger players concentrate on their own game, Hangeland would be perfect.

Same with midfield really, we need someone to take on the pressure of bossing the midfield so we can let the likes of Westwood and  Bannan play their won game, but with some instruction.

We look like a team of individuals who barely know each other at the minute.

Just checking further, Gallas, Carragher and Upson are all also available in the summer. Any one of those three on a short deal and nominal fee now would help us.

Jesus.  Gallas, Carragher and Upson. How desperate things have things become?

What we need now is a lift.
Even if we spend big on one player to give the club and the fans something to go on.

A statement of ambition. Why are the club so happy now to be lower league fodder?
I like bringing in young players but for God's sake give them a fighting chance with a couple of quality players around them.

If I could have one type of player only, it would be an absolute class centre mid. Even if it meant no other signings, we'd cope but we're desperate for a bit of leadership and class in the middle of the park.

Upson no. The other two possibly, though I think Gallas would half ass it, while we'd need someone quick alongside Carragher, and we've no pace at all in defence.

To be frank we should have been sounding out and establishing targets way before the start of Jan. It's clear our defence and midfield aren't up to it. So we should be signing players pretty much immeadiately.

This is the most worrying thing, Liverpool were very thin upfront, Sturridge had his medical before the window even opened.

We should have had our targets lined up and ready, it WILL be too late, if we wait till the end of January.

What's happened with this Dale Stephens chap, he would make a huge difference to our current team.

Maybe,as someone said they're waiting to see what happens at Southampton before giving PL any more cash.Randy may panic and sack him especially if it's a heavy defeat

I think that maybe randy has doubts about lambert and is not giving him the backing this month, if he does replace him then it has to be fast as we are in the transfer window and anyone coming in would need to sign players .

Trouble is there aren't many candidates out there that I can see , unless he plumps for a foreign coach .
