I was never convinced the young kids (some are not that young) were of prem standard and the results back this up, we do have experienced players Ireland,Gabby,Nzogbia and Bent who should be leaders on the field but who are all (maybe Gabby aside) just appear to be going throught he motions. Knowing how precarious our position is you would have thought we would be leading the pack in new recruits, and this is from someone who thinks Lambert isn't the one to blame for our predicament.

This place will implode once dale Stephens is confirmed as our first signing

And rightly so. Another cheap lower league nobody dressed up as another "young and hungry" prospect.
Brace yourselves then

A week into the transfer window, given our desperate situation, you'd think we'd be eager to sign some experienced players, but no.

Lambert has said ''we'll be fine'' - ''we won't get relegated'' ''we go again'' and all that crap which is becoming increasingly irritating. The only reason he acted late in August was the 1-3 Everton result. We got lucky at Swansea and I wonder if last night's result will finally awaken the board from it's slumber before it's too late?

Sign two experienced defenders and two expereinced midfielders now. There is no time to waste, the Southampton game is a tipping point.

I agree but can't see it happening - maybe lambert with his constant "we'll be fine " crap has persuaded Lerner things are not as bad as they look- I just feel so low today about the situation that I can't see anything to be positive about.

Don't tempt fate- wouldn't surprise me if lambert snapped up a couple of them and threw them into our team- what quality players can we attract now , relegation would be financial disaster and to be honest With our wages we could go down the Leeds route.

I think you're right eastie - the worry is we know where quality strengthening is needed but given our current plight attracting the right calibre of player is going to be difficult. I think the best we'll do is a couple of loans to see us to the end of the season. Lescott or maybe Dawson would be good but not sure that's realistic and I can't even put a name on a midfielder.

Do the players have reduction clauses in their contracts for if we are relegated?  Or will they all continue to pick up their bumper wage packets?  If they do we could well be starting a slide down a long slippery slope.

Let's be realistic - signing the quantity of players we are talking about simply isn't going to happen in January.  What we need is to focus on quality over quantity and look for those new players to bring the best out of what we already have.

I agree with John. It's quality that we have got be looking for. Getting in better than what we have has to be the key.

Too bloody right.

"Young and hungry" is fast becoming a cliche and it's really starting to get on my tits.

We just want players who are good enough.

I think Hangeland and Distin are out of contract in the summer. Short term deals would be good? If Olsson from West Brom is really available for 3million, he'd be a bargain.

You watch Admiral Ackhbar- face call in a few favours, play the system and end up with a solid defence at QPR by the end of Jan. Even that Ben Haim as a free agent would do a job for us at the minute.

A third of the month gone and still not even a whisper of a player coming in. What Lerner has done to this club is unforgivable.
We are going down unless we spend.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'whisper', but there have been links to players, Lescott being the strongest one so far.  We can't know what's going on behind the scenes, so I guess we have no choice but to sit tight and see who turns up stretching the shirt!
