Pat Murphy is a good journalist overall, but I don't think he knows the 'inside track' at Villa Park.
Agree, I think he's an excellent journalist who largely tells it as is rather than blowing smoke up anyone's ass...he does however as a member of the broadcast press appear to have a downer on Randy because he dosent give interviews.

He went up in my estimation when he had a row with Robbie Savage last week on R5, don't know if anyone heard it? He told Savage more or less to shut up as he always talks over other people and then when Savage spouted some inaccurate facts about Darren Bent, he was very sarcastic indeed about Savage's research skills. It was getting very tasty and Savage backed down very quickly

its here 25 minutes in: the actual talk about villa starts 21 minutes in.

Lambert sounds pissed!

I heard the row with Savage as well. Very amusing. About time somebody put him in his place.

Apparently Robbie Keane has ruled himself out of returning to Prem for a loan to any club.

I've just been looking at this MysteryMan's twitter page and considering he's supposedly ITK, he mentioned Benteke when it was common knowledge at the time we were after him, mentioned Lambert but also said we'd put a bid in for Andy Carroll. He did'nt mention Westwood, Bennett, Vlaar, the re-signing of Guzan or Bowery. There's also over a 1,000 people following his every word which i find a little sad.

kendrick, nursey, murphy etc are all on twitter and often wrong on transfer information- it's speculation , lies and crap - hence the name of the thread.

Which is why i don't follow any journalist on twitter.

Shame on you

Some Italian journalist has linked us with Coutinho - surely not?!
Would be bloody exciting though! When was the last really edge-of-the-seat player we had? Merson?

Ashley Young was a very good player for us and very effective and dangerous but he never had that flair, capable of anything sort of moments.
Coutinho is unbelievable

Most people would get off their seats when the ball went out to Young just in anticipation of what he was going to do next. Surely that's the very definition of an 'edge of your seat' player?

Can't argue with that but he wasn't unpredictable in the same way a Merson or Brazilians tend to be.
Anyway, the point being, Coutinho would be fucking amazing!

Hell yeah. Almost certainly not true but this is a rumour I am going to enjoy all day. Thanks!

Ashley Young surely?

But when we first bought him, he was a gamble on a young winger. He did turn into an edge of the seats player similar to Yorke.

Yeah, you're probably right, but his game is more Tony Daley than Benny Carbone

I think the confusion was just down to the term 'edge of your seat' player. I think you're asking when was the last time we had a quality player who could pull the strings and create opportunities against closed defences. Merson might have been the last one to do that well.

Reports in Italy say it would cost us £8m.

Also it is a player that makes you sit up and take notice and maybe get extra tickets sold to see a good player. Whether Coutinho will sign for us and be the above player is another matter.
