I like lescott but its the Citeh thing again. Are we gonna get another less than commited player who's made his money and is not particulary bothered how he does for us scenario like Ireland and Dunne?

Agreed, Lescott might not be quite good enough for the champions league but he's more than good enough for us.

Can't see him coming here permanently but surely a loan deal isn't out of the question with City still paying a decent percentage of his wages.

I always think if they were willing to loan Adebayor to Spurs (when Spurs had only finished two places below them the previous season) then I think it would be very possible to get one of City's out of favour loan players.

As long as they want to come here of course.

Greg, Lescott will want to keep his England place so he needs first team football.

Lescott is a Villa fan, so I would be much less concerned about his motivation.

What about the fall out regarding his brother.

Exactly what I was thinking.  Plus he'll still have England ambitions, which should also act as motivation.

Aaron Lescott?

Dunno the ins and outs but surely it was just the case of a player not good enough for the premier league as evidenced by him moving around various clubs in league one (was last at Walsall a few years back, not sure where he is now.)

He'd be guaranteed that with us and would be a great addition. If it was to be on a loan, perhaps there would be an option to buy him at the end of the season. I just don't want to see another Kyle Walker scenario. If only we could have bought him.

As i said, i like Lescott. The loan move you suggested sounds a better option so we can see what his attitude is like because its a big investment for us otherwise for a guy over 30.

I think Lescott would be a great signing, not sure how much can be read into him being a Villa fan he seems to really love scoring against us.

He's 30 years old. On a massive contract and we would have to give him a 4 year with about £100k a week.

We can do better on a permanent but he would be very useful on loan.

Sadly yet again in our position it's a case of needs must. In any case, looking at the majority of signings we've made last summer, short termism isn't something you can say they are!

Certainly I'd be much more confident of not just staying up but moving up the table with a Lescott or Dawson in defence.

Did we ever get all the cash from the Milner/Ireland deal in a similar vein to the Downing deal?  They might 'owe us one', so to speak.

I also think Dorrans could be worth a punt.

I did think of Dorrans but he hasn't stood out that much for WBA since they were promoted tbh.

He certainly ticks all the boxes in the "experienced player who can help out the kids" stakes.  Its just the money. 10m plus that again in wages - I know they paid a lot for him but 10m seems steep for a 30 year old. Loan deal would be good, that way if he works out we can buy him knowing we're still in the premiership
