Brietkruz had the better reputation, Atkinson used to go on about what a great left foot he had, but it was Paul Calf-a-like Beinlich who went on to play for the national team.

I went to watch their debut for the reserves, and thought Breitkreutz looked fantastic, and Beinlich looked "up for it" at best.

Was it Beinlich who scored a screamer when we got otherwise battered at somewhere like Newcastle?

I remember a reserve game against Liverpool when we put 7 (I think) past them, both the German lads were fantastic from what I can remember.

According to soccerbase, never scored for us.

Mind you, also according to soccerbase, he only ever played 35 league games anywhere in his whole career, which smells fishy.

And wikipedia suggest he scored for us once, so could be.

I found this image of Beinlich on a German web site.

Chrome's translate thing translated the caption of this to "Beinlich. After mullet, before balding", which made me laugh. Gotta love the Germans.

Could he dress anymore like a German?

It's been some time since we had a Fergie cast off so how about Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira on loan.

On the face of it, he is exactly the kind of midfielder we need, but I doubt he would come to us.

That is superb. His socks have even got that washed-with-a-slightly-darker-colour look about them.

Of the midfielders we've been linked to so far the french guy at osasuna is the one that I think fits the bill best, but he's very inexperienced.

A signing like him along with a loan for a more experienced guy would be great.

Douglas - the Dutch office for my Company is in Enschede so most of the staff are Twente fans, when we linked in the summer i asked them about him and they think he's great, good in the air, quick, reads a game well, tackles well, scores goals (good record for a defender at least).  He should be near the top of the list for defense if we can get him now for a reasonable price.

For those who like having a viking at the back Vegard Forren from Molde looks likely to be the next big Norwegian defender, has played in the last few internationals and looks a great player, he'd be a top signing but will probably have a lot of options if he wants to leave.

Was reading somewhere that he was granted Dutch citizenship a few months ago and has been called up into the Dutch squad.  Agree that he could be a good signing if the price is right.

Your club needs you! City's Lescott could be on his way to boyhood club Villa
3 Jan 2013 22:31

The England defender grew up supporting the Villans but would have to take a big pay-cut if he agreed to join their fight against relegation

Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Manchester City's out-of-favour defender Joleon Lescott to shore up their leaky defence.

Owner Randy Lerner is set to back manager Paul Lambert this month in a bid to turn around the club's shaky form.

Lerner remains committed to first-year boss Lambert, despite their troubles in the Premier League as a young side battles to find its feet.

Villa are a point off the drop zone after conceding 15 goals without reply in three heavy losses over Christmas.

A point at Swansea on New Year's Day stopped the rot, but Villa realise an experienced central defender is essential this month.

Lescott, a local lad who grew up supporting Villa before playing for Wolves, Everton and now City, is available.

But his large wages are an issue, as Lerner is still seeking to reduce player salaries, and both Everton and Sunderland are also interested in taking the 30-year-old.

The £10million-rated ace will have to take a significant drop and negotiate with the champions for a pay-off to join Villa.

In recent years, both Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland left City with golden goodbyes to compensate them when they joined Villa.

Despite struggling in the top-flight, Villa have a League Cup semi-final first leg at Bradford next Tuesday.

Overall, Lerner is pleased with Lambert's work reducing the wage bill and nurturing their young academy graduates - he is delighted with the Scot's main summer signing, £7.5m Christian Benteke.

The American is now willing to back Lambert again in this month's window.

An experienced centre-back and a ball-winning midfielder are priorities, while the club are considering a new left-back too, amid concerns over the abilities of Joe Bennett and Eric Lichaj.

Big-earning duo Shay Given and Darren Bent are both available if Villa get good offers, while Nottingham Forest's ex-Villa manager Alex McLeish fancies midfielder Barry Bannan.

But outcast Alan Hutton has now returned to the club following his loan spell at Forest as the clubs negotiate over the percentage of his salary to pay if the Championship club keep him.

The Molde bloke is rumoured to be off to Fulham.

Douglas looked decent in the one game I saw him in.

Lescott would be fecking ace. Big Narnia loving git.

To be fair they have a lot of quality options and it's not really a terrible reflection on him that he doesn't play a lot of games for them.
