Well predicting the ones who are cut out for it in the PL is the trick for sure but its not too hard. If they're strong, have a decent engine, can pass the ball to another player a lot and have either strong defensive or offensive skills, or better still both, chances are they'll do alright over here.

Henke is employed to find these players anyway. I'd be very suprised if a few werent lined up. Even if we hadn't planned to go for one there should be dossiers on players should we have to. Now we have to.
As I see it, we needed at least one maybe two good midfielders this January without any injuries or whatnot. I'd say we now need at least two or maybe three.
That's as well as a decent centre half, full back and maybe a back up goalie. And if Bent leaves, a replacement for him.

It also needs to be looked into why we get so many injuries. We seem to get more than anybody else now and we can't cope with it.

James Collins came off the bench to score 4 in the 2nd half for Swindon today.

Wonder whether the Swansea game will have any bearing on whether money will be spent in the window and how much?

Weirdly may have been better to get another tonking if it rammed home just how much strengthening we needed...

Points are too precious for that.

Reo Coker free if Westwood is out would be in tomorrow were it possible for me. That boateng fella looked useful. Battle and protect the back 4! Centre half and centre mid before Southampton please!!

Reo Coker will be at Villa Park on Saturday, with the Ipswich squad. Daresay our lot will let him pass and score - things he could never manage whilst employed there.

If available, Reo-Coker is a no brainer on a two year deal. Some of you guys seem to forget that NRC was 4th or 5th choice when competing for a centre mid spot against Barry, Petrov, Milner etc who were all in their pomp and vs this sort of competition, yes he was exposed as a limited footballer when considering we were pushing top 4 at the time and were looking at players of the next level - even Petrov in MON's last season was considered to be past it. We are a million miles from that now (worst prem league side in the last 12 months), and at 28/29, NRC would now walk into our side and be first choice vs the reserves stepping up and championship players we have brought. He is also a leader and could be captain in an instant.

We are now a relegation fodder team and have been for three years, our ambition now is to become a mid table team once more. A player with NRC's combative qualities is something we simply do not have in our team but desperately need. Admittedly my knowledge of lower league/european players of similar calibre is none existent, but given what he gave us vs the current bunch, then i'd go and pick him up tonight.

Why do we need more players who aren't good enough?

I'm not a big fan of NRC but right now i'd take him until the end of the season as long as he's now more realistic with his wage demands. As limited as he is he may help with a bit of leadership and fight.

Reo-Coker a no brainer? Or did you mean he hasn't got a brain? For me, it is an absolute no brainer that I don't want him anywhere near the Villa. I haven't forgotten how utterly crap he was in all except about three games. I found his inabilty to pass a ball in a straight line over a distance of about 10 yards staggering and still do. I think I'd rather get relegated than suffer him again....!

I was thinking he wouldn't be that bad a signing, but I've just remembered the sheer apoplexy his inability to complete the simplest passes used to drive me to.

Please, not Reo Coker.  Getting 'experienced' players in shouldn't mean they're experienced at being shit and full of their own self importance.

I agree with his limitations, I was a season ticket holder through it and regularly pulled my hair out, but a team is about just that, you need a blend and we currently have no size, no strength, little character, no PL experience and a lack of leaders. The scouts should be able to find a player with these qualities outside of NRC who also have the ability to pass, but on my limited knowledge of footballers, he has most of these qualities and is soon to be free.

So get a player with strength who can pass. Why is Reo Coker the only option? He's nowhere near what we need.

Reo Coker's one and only tactic when receiving the ball was to get his head down and run in a straight line until he inevitably ran into an opposition player.  That said, compared to Delph he has the skills of Zidane and Messi combined.

I said back in the summer we should have got N'Zonzi off Blackburn. A big fella, good in the air, decent on the ball and likes to put a foot in - exactly what we need!

I'd like to see Lambert get that type of player as a matter of priority.
