OK thanks for letting me know that. How silly of me to think that these four were not international stars when we signed them!

If you think the crop of crap we signed last summer will be as good as the before mentioned you must have a screw loose somewhere.

Where did I lose the argument?
And where did I say that the recent signings are as good as anyone else we signed in the past?

Young had  4 months in the PL , Milner was not a regular for struggling Newcastle, Downing's team were in the championship. So as I said they were not established premier league players.

Get a grip mate. Barry signed on his 16th birthday, Milner and Downing were established PL players with real prospects and a Young was a star in the making.
Stop deluding yourself.

Indeed, Milner had played close to 200 games by the time he joined us a second time, to suggest he was anything but an established Premier League player is ridiculous.  And Downing didn't play a single game in the Championship for Boro owing to him being injured, so again, to suggest he was anything other than an established Premier League player is just using semantics for the sake of it.

Frederick Sorenson and Mark Davies..?

Davies is a good footballer, but would still need a big hard git to toughen us up.

No idea on who the other is?

Re the aftab argument, Milner was a starlet from 16 that played a lot of games but never looked like being the player he became until Barry left and he moved central. Until then he was a hardworking wide midfield player but little more. Young was a gamble at the money but had a lot of suitors, but then a lot were looking at Benteke, so although different styles, comparisons can be drawn. Downing was way over priced for a guy who had scored once in a relegated Boro team, had 1 great season with us and went to 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' for 20 million and we will never look back, but he was the most established of the lot in terms of international caps and ability.

The money spent on the 3 discounting Barry was over 30 million. Benteke cost 7, Westwood 2. The latter can be as good as Barry in time, and Benteke will fetch similar fees that Milner and Downing did when sold on in a couple of years I am sure. I have no issue with the club signing players from the lower divisions and abroad in the main, we just need to mix in a couple of more seasoned players with them. Young settled in so well because Carew came at the same time. Milner was helped no end by a season bedding in then Petrov being with him, so was Downing. Barry had a long, long time to mature and played all over the place. The current youngsters have just as much promise as those guys IMO, but need a couple of older heads to steer them. Vlaar is a big miss, and KEA has not done what I think Lambert thought he would. Losing Gabby and the issues with Bent have not helped either. A couple of strong leaders showing them the right way and this team can grow into something really good I am sure of it.

6"4 Danish centre back co-owned by Juve and Bologna. Last Danish centre half to come from Italy any good check. Yes please.

Joleon Lescott, anyone? Experienced centre back. Would need to take a wage cut.

Press reports today saying city will sell lescott for £8m- would be a very good signing at that price .

Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman is keen to bring Stephen Warnock back to the club in January.
The full-back returns to Aston Villa after Saturday's trip to Peterborough.
Freedman told BBC Radio Manchester: "Stephen has done fantastic for us. We would like to look at that situation if Stephen would. The ball's in his court"

If he tells us that it's all positive, I'll go to the board and explain why we should try and do something

"If he expresses any interest in staying, we would certainly look at it. We've said to him that he needs to be comfortable with his decision."
Former England defender Warnock, 30, has played 14 times during his loan spell with Bolton.
Freedman continued: "He'll go away and think about it for a couple of weeks and then he'll let us know what he's feeling in January.
"If he tells us that it's all positive, I'll go to the board and explain why we should try and do something."

Lescott would be perfect as an experienced head that you would not mid the wage outlay on.

Maybe something could be done with Davies if Lambert is after him.

I do wonder if a 6 month deal for Reo Coker is worth it when his 3 months at Ipswich is up.
