The problem with Sturridge is that his reputation massively exceeds his accomplishments.  He has the potential to be a very good player but, so far, he hasn't really stepped up to a level worthy of his wages and the fee they'd be asking.

For example I've never seen him dismantle a defense like Benteke has in the last 2 games.  He had a run at Bolton where it looked like he was going to make the transition from potential to genuine quality but it fell away again and then again he had a purple patch last year before falling away again, as a 24 year who has been around the premier league for 6-7 years now he needs to start offering a lot more consistency to justify his wages.  He made a mistake in signing for Chelsea when he did and would've been much better served having a year or 2 to establish himself at a club with less expectation, but if you're offered 60k a week to play for a club with a chance of silverware you wouldn't say no I guess.

I want Lambert to put a photo of sturridge on his wall along with one of Jack Rodwell, Scot Sinclair, Charlie Adam, Edin Dzeko, Demitri Berbatov, Adam Johnson  Macheda and to a lesser extent Milner and Hernandez.

So when one of our lot is tempted by a move, he can just turn around and say you remind me of one of these

Don't agree with Berbatov being on that list, he started at a massive club, took a step down to big club and then went back to a massive club, and was successful (to varying levels) at all of them.  He's now stepped down a level again but that's mainly due to him being at the tail end of a very good career.

Sidwell is my favourite example, 1 good season in the prem before he jumped at the money offered by chelsea where he barely played for a year and then had a few stop start years with us and ditto with Fulham.  He's starting to look decent again this year but he effectively lost 6 years which should have been the peak of his career thanks to that move to Chelsea, I'd be amazed if he doesn't massively regret that decision.

OK take Berbatov off and put Sidwell up, no problem with that, the principle remains

There's a name missing from that list. Some prick who commanded big money as a winger and is now only getting games as a full back because the club's first two choices are unavailable.

Is this so called winger playing for a team that used to be good, but now is back to the bare bones of "quality", and yet said "winger" still cant cement a place?  A player that at his last club, one who nutured him from long injury to holding a regular place in the England squad, and suggested he really owed that fantastic club, just before facking off..... Nah, dont know who you mean

If we're going to include wingers who were great for a club and then left for big money only to do very little at their new club we can look a bit closer to home.

Making an example of a current squad member might not be the best idea though.

I think Shaun Wright Phillips and Joe Cole could be added to the list, both league winners,
but both have had (imho) underwhelming careers.

Scott Parker too wasted years of his career at Chelsea.

Preferably all these pictures would be of them sitting on the bench or up in the stands too.

With their face mooning out over the collar of an oversized coat as they sink into their Recaro seat.

Some of these younger, English players need to recognise they may be better playing every week at a Villa, Fulham etc than sitting on the bench most weeks at City etc. Rodwell & Sinclair have both made errors in my opinion going to City. But, good luck to them, it's a short career and they need to mazimise their earning potential.

Agents have to take some of the blame as well.  Of course they are going to encourage their clients to take big money offers, especially when it involves them lining their pockets as well.  It is an issue that is affecting the game in this country though, as it weakens the overall standard of the league and has a detrimental affect at international level as well.
