Couldn't seeDowning in a hurry to come back tbh....

He would be good thugh, our best player in 10/11 by a distance.

Not a chance that Lambert would even consider Downing. He would want big wages and i am sure the new scouting team will have several players lined up for January ........

Weimann is a smart footballer who should improve rapidly and I think we should persevere with him. Gabby takes a lot of pressure from Benteke; Gabby's a distraction for defenders.

My view is that we need the 'killer midfielder': the guy that will make a difference to our attacking options. And, two fullbacks that can attack with gusto, as well as defend the flanks. We may have some of these personnel but it's not obvious.

Not sure about Weimann. I think his ball control lets him down especially when he is out wide and running at defenders. Ok when he makes a run into the box and gets on the end of a cross but how many of those do we see?

I think our full backs are capable of being more attack minded but at the moment do not have the confidence or self belief to get forward too often in case the are caught out.  Perhaps with time this will come, with the midfielders covering their runs.

Sadly Adam Lallana's value has increased a notch today, unless we offer Bent in exchange.  Lallana would be super for us.

If we continue with the current formation, then we probably need better wide options as opposed to more attack minded full backs.  N'Zogbia finally finding some form would be a big help, but I'm not really holding out too much hope for that.

Bennett and Lowton are fine getting forward, I have no great worries about them.

A midfielder with a bit of quality who can make an impact would be great.

I think what we need mostly is someone to come off the bench and change the game for us.  For too long a sub has weakened us more often than not, I love someone to come on and do what hendandez did to us a couple of weeks ago.

Rumous Arry wants Bent and Dawson in January. I would sooner keep him on the bench than let one of the clubs we will be fighting against have him in January, unless they paid what we did.

ASTON VILLA TRANSFER NEWS
Like it or lump it: Lambert outlines £22m Darren Bent's future in Villa reserves

25 Nov 2012 22:33
The Dazzler didn't even make the bench for snore-draw with Arsenal – as boss paves way for January exit for rejected England star

Surplus to requirements: Darren Bent of Aston Villa
Neville Williams
Paul Lambert signalled the end of Darren Bent’s Villa career after telling the England striker he is now just a squad player.

Bent was furious after being left out again and this time did not even make the bench as Villa failed to score against Arsenal. Former Chesterfield rookie Jordan Bowery, a bargain £1m signing, was preferred on the bench as back-up to first choice striker Christian Benteke.

Bent is now desperate to get away in January and Lambert has now made their fractured relationship even worse by insisting the £22m record signing can like it or lump it.

When quizzed on choosing Bowery over Bent, Villa boss Lambert said: “That’s my decision. I’m the man that picks the team. Listen, it’s my choice and I’ve 26, 27 lads that I have to look after.

Hard line: Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has put Darren Bent in his place
Alex Livesey

“Everybody’s in it together and I need everybody in it together. I know the disappointment when you don’t play, I know I was dropped about five million times, but that’s the nature of the game.

“If you could pick everybody you would. Darren’s still part of it but I've got 25, 26 guys to take care and think of.

“Darren’s fine. There’s nothing at all. The most important thing is Aston Villa Football Club.”

I already think of him as gone.

I think he's a brilliant goalscorer and I'm gutted it's not working, I said pre-season I thought he'd score bucketloads under Lambert but he's not played well, and neither have we as a team when he's played.

He clearly hasn't reacted in the way the manager would have liked to this fact, and as the quote from Lambert says " The most important thing is Aston Villa Football Club".

The money from Bent would let Lambert go for a couple of players in maybe the £5-6m, and given what we've seen of Benteke that could get us some real quality in.

The Bent situation is one that will be debated for years. Had he arrived January 2009 we'd have been title contenders, as it happened he arrived when we were struggling and he has played under three villa managers in less than two years and just never really seemed to click with the club since Houllier left.
