I think PL will try and buy 1 if not 2 inside fowards to play off Benteke. He has been linked with 2 recently, to replace Gabby and Weimann. Not quite sure they are up to it in the 1st team.

I reckon he will be looking to pay £10m each, and if that means selling Bent then so be it.

Interesting interview with Sid on TS this morning, when he intimated that Bent was not putting in 100% commitment to the cause, and that is why he is not playing.

A mate of mine yesterday said he'd heard Lambert saying more or less exactly the same thing recently, and that when Bent decides to train as hard and committed as the rest of the squad he'll get back in. When Lambert came in he said words to the effect that attitude and team work were as important as ability, and I think we're seeing that in his purchases and team selections.

I'm sure I read on this site that this is the case and that a deal with Fulham is pretty much done and dusted.

I agree, and think Gabby will be kept as he can play the Benteke roll, albeit without the goal threat, but still providing the ability to hold up the ball etc.

I think Bent has polarised opinion too much, he is a fabulous goalscorer, and had he come in place of Heskey when we had Carew and Gabby in form I firmly believe we would have finished 4th. Now though, we are a different team, very different style, and different attitude. Bent is now a luxury the team can't afford, unless he adapts to play in the same vein, which I see no reason to why he can't.

Gabby and Weimann playing wide long term is not going to be good enough, and I think the links to the French guy, and the Brazilian, the likes of Hoolihan etc, show the way we will look at those positions. I think Gabby and Weimann will still see a fair bit of action though, as they work so hard, and the front group will eventually rotate a fair bit depending on the game. Gabby will be the Benteke back for a while too I think.

Yeah, I see what you're saying Ozzjim. Weimann is looking good too. I would be more upset at losing him than bent. I think he could be a star for us where as bent is more one dimensional.

I just feel we're missing a trick with having a goal scorer like bent in the team. But if we're not going to be playing that way then there is no point in having bent in the side.

The players we seem to be linked with are promising enough to sacrifice a player like bent.

What we're missing is that midfield player that can pick up the ball and run at defenders. Someone with genuine pace and maybe a trick or two. Or someone's who's movement is quick and can pace and race into a more attacking position. Doesn't need to be a winger either. Look at the run and pass from Anderson for Hernandez's goal yesterday. We don't have that. We are patient, but slow in midfield which allows the opposition to set up and deny us good chances. We need some pace otherwise we become predictable.

The problem with Bent is games like Southampton his lack of link up play and ability to hold the ball puts pressure on the team and we end up losing, but Bent got a goal at the expense of the team losing.

Then he gets dropped against Fulham, comes of the bench and puts a real shift in, scores and earns us a point.

So maybe it is about him not putting enough effort in. Either way I think if we sell him and strengthen the team We will be better off now that Lambert is pulling the strings.

Holman gave us that a little yesterday re running from midfield. Replacing Ireland with better is the key for us IMO

Would still like to get an othordox wide man in, how long does Pilkington have left on his contract at Norwich?

Would be my top choice, underrated player and someone Lambert knows well.

IMO we need someone who is a bit more versatile than just a wideman, someone who can play on the wide/wing and can also play more central role.

What we need is better players than Albrighton coming off the bench. It scared the hell out of me when he came on yesterday.

You are obsessed.

I would like a winger come striker, a bit like Gabby, but tricky and clever, and with movement.

In form, and playing for the team, he is ideal.

This may have been said before but , in the current circumstances , I would enquire about Downing in January . Would give service to Bent and Benteke and probably wouldn't cost anything - if Liverpool do still owe instalments on the initial deal .

Might not be popular though .........
