Really? He's playing champions league football. Won the title and picking up a mahoosive wage packet.

I really do think he's a brilliant player. Not utilised enough at city for sure. But he is getting the games.

Not to pour any more fuel on the 'milner's coming home' conspiracy, but stranger things have happened. Didn't Ferguson try a bid for Brian Deane before making his cheeky enquiry about Cantona's availability?

I think David Hurst failed a medical,so then Fergie went for Cantona. If Hurst was fitter,we probably wouldve won the league that season!!

Let's be realistic. No Manchester City players at their peak will be coming to Villa unless on loan. We won't pay their inflated salaries.

Why is everybody so eager to see the back of Bent, the one player we have who is guaranteed to score goals for us?

I have no idea. I'll be glad to see him back in contention.

According to auntie beeb he's played 7 games this year out of about 18, a ratio which is likely to get worse once they're out of Europe/League Cup.  He's involved but hardly an integral part of team.  Personally I think a loan move would not be that beyond the limits reality.  The biggest stumbling block, for me, is Milner admitting that he is on his way out of City.

James Chester played on loan at my local team Carlisle and he was very very good lads, Didn't Ryan Shawcross leave Man Utd to get games? I bet if we were linked to him a few of you would be happy, Chester is a good young player and thats the type of player were looking at now.

but we cant have a team of 11 James Chester's. My boro mates reckon Bennett was excellent but he has struggled in the prem , yes they may and will probably come good but need some experience in the team in January as well.

i think if we did sell Bent and used his fee and wages to fund a bid for Milner i dont think it would be out of question for him to be tempted,

i dont know why i say that, i just think we would have a chance even though all signs would point to it being a no no.

he's been at City and won the league now but he looked like the odd man out when celebrating as he wasnt a part of the first team, and i reckon his chances will get fewer and fewer as City spend more and more, and i acept they will lose ya ya which would be a spanner, but i just get a feeling

i'm not saying it would be a certainty by any strech just worth a go, you never know

are we going to pay Milners wages then?  He left to go city for double the money , he couldnt wait to go .  There was a time when the deal might have been off and the lad was gutted .

So lets go and sign some experience at lets say 3 year contracts on 60 maybe 70k a week, I tell you what lets sign Dunne , Warnock, Hutton, Nzogg who are the type of players who have got us in this shit that were in, one let himself go that much that he did not look like a prem lg player for at least six months, one that has been berated since Wembley, one that universally is agreed one of the worst players that has ever put on a Villa shirt and the other one who looked good for the last team he played for but never for us, that what got us in this shit, lets hope the players brought in can step up to mark and we survive, coz thats what this season is all about, then in the words of PL we go again.

breathe brother , to be fair I would have Dunne back in the team , did you notice we are minus 12 on goal difference already.

I'd love it Dante. But I just don't see him coming back to villa. Even on loan

I wouldn't say he's guaranteed to score goals for us, as we play a system that doesn't suit him

Yes the examples you have given have not exactly set the world alight (although Dunne and Warnock both have had some decent times at the club), but that doesn't mean that we should rule out buying in experienced players.  Look at the 2010/11 season - we were in real trouble in January and went out and bought in a player with a proven Premier League record who arguably kept us in the league.

If Bent were prepared to learn how to play a new position I wouldn't mind seeing him play in Weimann's position at some point.

And without wanting to go over old ground, if we have a striker who has scored a f*ckload of goals at his other clubs (and in his first year or so with us), maybe we should think about playing a system where we might score occasionally.

If our new system were generating stacks of goals then I'd no problem leaving him out. But as it's not, maybe it's time to start using the tools at our disposal.

The reason Bent will be sold has nothing to do with him not fitting in with the system we play (in my opinion of course). It's all to do with his mega wages. That's the real reason he's out of the team and soon to be out of the club. Lerner won't be happy till he has a team of Championship standard players on 10k a week.

I don't think we have the players to play a system to suit Bent in the squad. We no longer have the likes of Ash and Downing able to provide service from wide areas. We have Albrighton, who seems to have had all the promise sucked out of him, and N'zogbia, who only seems capable of running with the ball whilst looking at the floor, and runs like his feet are tied together. Holman runs around a lot, but struggles with five yard passes.
