The summariser was raving about Westwood at Sunderland on the stream I watched. Some old bluenose it was.

Sturridge?

The most impressive part of westwoods game on Saturday was his direction and organisation of the other players. A leader type influence in midfield is something we have missed since stan became ill and is brilliant from such a young player.

At Slumberland he was the one with five minutes to go, flapping his arms to motion the midfield to step up higher and not sit so deep.

Yeah he was doing this again on Saturday. He also had a go at getting the Holte going a bit when he came to take a corner near the end of the game!

Good to hear this.  We need more leaders on the pitch.

How many people over the years have said that Carrick is no good?  Well how many games has he played for United?  Fergie rates him and Westwood says that he has modelled himself on Carrick.  Someone who is always available to receive a pass and then move it on, and as has been said, mostly forwards which helps to build momentum. Also means that the front men can make a run knowing that he will probably find them, not wait to see what he is going to do with it before making a move.

He will never stand out as the "star" man who catches the headlines and everyone leaves the ground saying what a brilliant match he had, but he could well be worth his weight in gold for us.

I know what you mean. Still, Carrick is a gutless wanker. Westwood will keep the ball moving but typically won't just pass for the sake of it, even when clear in space, like Carrick does.

Sorry, I can't stand him.

He can pass the ball though Maz.

Westwood looks to play the ball out, thats the difference between him and Delph/Herd etc, but the fact he has Ireland and Weimann in front of him who are constantly looking for space, and the first CF we have had for a while who can actually hold the ball up, then i suppose his job has been made a bit easier.Looks a good prospect though, and how much did Carrick go for £20m?

More talk of Frimpong being available on a free transfer at the end of this season in the gossip column.

The bloke at Wolves we were supposed to be looking at looks decent. By that, I mean he's scored a couple of good goals when I've seen their highlights. Sako is it?

Frimpong tweeted that he was going out on loan this week.  Didn't say where tho'.  I'd assume Ipswich.

I love the Michael Carrick debates.

When England crash out of major international tournament, it's always: 'why don't we have players who can just pass the ball and keep it?'

When Carrick next plays it's always: 'he didn't do much, did he? Just passed the ball around.... didn't go past a player...'

Great stuff.

We've had the same debate after Villa games. Petrov used to get a lot of criticism with people saying he only ever passed sideways or backward. He was someone you could be confident wouldn't lose the ball though and he's been a massive loss. I think in Westwood we have someone who is now filling that gap and we have looked a lot better since he came into the side. Bannan and Westwood seem to be compliment eachother too.
