I see Newcastle are signing Moussa Sissoko on a free .  That's the sort of player we need .
I think our scouts should just follow the Newcastle scouts around personally.
Then jump ahead of them just before they try and sign the players, perhaps a cheeky little trip from behind.

I don't think we need a 'hard' player as such, but somebody who can both win the ball and distribute. El-Ahmadi can't pass forwards, Bannan can't pass simply, Ireland is always one pass ahead and Delph can't pass, full stop.
Well summed up but does it not bother you how someone like Sidwell goes to a different club and suddenly looks like a decent player? As I've already mentioned it was the same back in the day with Draper. Am just worried that anyone coming in would look shit at the moment, El Ahmadi was a hell of a player for PSV suddenly he looks rubbish.

With the midfield balance tipped too far towards flair players, and hence the requirement of a hard bastartd to do the donkey work, I'll open myself up to ridicule by suggesting bogeyman Karl Henry.

I also thought we should have re-signed NRC, so I'm obviously not all there.

I'd also have liked NRC back in the fold .
So you think that Thomas Hitzlsperger, deemed good enough to sign for fifth placed Everton isn't good enough for us but Nigel Reo-Coker, deemed only good enough to sign for bottom of the Championship Ipswich is someone we should have signed?

Okay then.

Totally different types of player- lets see how many games hitzlsperger starts for Everton - I'd be surprised if he starts a handful of games during his time there, reo- Coker would add a bit of ball winning steel and experience to the midfield , hitzlsperger is not good enough to start in our team in my view .

Everton offered him a short term deal after a trial, he had no other offers and  I'd doubt very much that Everton would extend his deal- as cover for injuries he's ok .

When you say deemed good enough for a fifth placed team can you tell me how many games he's played so far ? Exactly - deemed a squad player!

Reo- Coker despite his faults would get into our side in my view ahead of the likes of Delph.

Let's get Heskey and Beye back. They were deemed good enough for 6th placed Villa.

Which is completely different to Ipswich offering Reo-Coker a short-term deal when he had no other offers.

Your the one banging on about the hitz - he would not improve our team, reo- Coker is not the player I'd go for in January but I'd take him on a free ahead of hitz anyday.

We need steel and experience , reo-Coker lacks real quality but he's better than what we've got, hitz is not better than what we've got.

They are totally different players who play very different roles in midfield.the steely ball winner is one thing we need.

And as per my point - the respective clubs who have chosen to sign the two players is clearly enough evidence of how good each of them are.

NRC is no better than Herd. It's debatable whether he's much better than Delph.

Lets see if hitz starts a game  up there  - I expect he will be looking for  a club come the end of the season, having barely kicked a ball on merseyside.

You were saying last year how totally shit Darron Gibson was when I suggested him as a part exchange for ash on one of the Ashley young threads- remind me dave is he not now a regular for Everton ?

Does that not say how good he is ?

You've come up with some eccentric ideas in the past eastie, but the idea that anyone higher than a League One club, let alone ourselves should be trying to sign Darron Gibson is bordering on insanity.

He would be about sixth choice amongst our current midfielders.

Whilst NRC is the type of player we could do with, the player himself is not good enough now.

I don't think we'll be seeing any frees coming in between now and January a la Pires. I reckon Lambert would see it as undermining his whole strategy. I also think he won't splurge in January, for the same reason. It'll be a couple of unheralded players, possibly not from the PL.

The player I think we need? Kevin Nolan.

I think he has got to alter that strategy for the remainder of this season Curious and revisit it in the summer.  We just need to stay up this season and if we can achieve that through short-term frees and loans then I think it is a case of needs must.  The long term strategy can be picked up again when our safety in the division is secured.
