Bent is a luxury player, I think the team would improve if we replaced Bent with someone who would score 10-15 goals a season but also bring the team into the game and create chances.

Sunderland really improved when they sold him?? They went from top 6 to relegation fodder. I just don't get this calling him a luxury player. He literally kept us up 2 seasons ago, no one was calling him a luxury player then. We need to play to his strengths as we were doing in the latter part of that season

Nearest?! Dwight was a far superior player to Bent. I reckon Carew probably was too.

Although Carew's bad was considerably badder than Bent's bad.

Bent's a good player and I don't think we should take any old offer, but if there's big money for a (pretty much) 29 year old and Lambert's funds are limited then it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Dwight Yorke was a completely different league of player to bent.

Neither do I. Do people think we'd be spending the money on a top class replacement if we sold Bent?

We wouldn't. Lerner might be happy to see him replaced with a promising 12 year old from Carlisle, but I know I wouldn't.

Maybe what we need to do is get the ball to Bent more often?

As for replacing him with a 15 goal a season player who contributes more, who? And how much harder is it going to be to attract anyone half decent if we just reinforce the way the rest of the world sees us by flogging our better player yet again?

I can't help thinking that all the discussions about whether we can play to Bent's strengths are over-analysing things somewhat. He's a striker who does his best work in the box. Just give him some decent service. I understand the need to alternate strikers for certain games and tactics, but if you can't find a way to operate to make the most of out a striker like Bent, it's a concern.

If we sell Bent it would be the final nail in the coffin and would make peoples perceptions of us as a club at the moment absolutely correct, as it's what everybody is expecting us to do.It would be completely and utterly depressing in terms of the message it sends out.
I can't for one minute believe that PL cannot see the benefit of having a player like Bent in the side.It's up to him to get the best out of him
